Compiled Crystal

Rhonda,
If you get around to remembering what it took to make the report default to
a specific location, please let me know. We are interested in doing this as
well.

Thanks,

Thaddeus Jacobs.

Well, yes and no. I have been able to compile the reports and run them on
the client only after I reinstalled crystal reports. Don't know what was
up there but that is working now. The next problem is Visual basic. I
would rather for a user to push a button and the report export to a specific
file and not have the need to put in the path and file names themselves.
This is a text file that is being pulled by another program and there is no
need for the file to be viewed or printed. It works on my computer, I
finally got it to work on the computer I was testing but guess what. I did
so much that I don't know what finally got it to work so now it doesn't work
on the user's computer.

I have tried compiling a crystal report and distributing it to a client
computer and all I get is the hourglass for a second and then nothing. I
am
using v.8 and have downloaded the add-in. I also have created a visual
basic program to print the report and still get the same thing....Nothing.
Since I am not getting an error message I don't know where to look for the
answer. I do have the odbc drivers on the clients computer but not
crystal
reports(I didn't think I needed them)Any thoughts?

Did you run the setup.exe file on the client PC? It was created during the compile process. This installs the necessary dll files so that the client computer can run the compiled report.

Yes I have run both the setup created by Crystal and the setup I created
when I made a distribution copy of my Visual Basic program. Neither on
works. I also have tried this on a non-progress database and still get the
same thing.

Rhonda,
I know this sounds like a dumb question, but did you install the ODBC
drivers on the client?

I know early on with our Crystal implementation there were a lot of .dll issues. The versions on the client have to match the versions on the 'designer' computer. mfc40.dll was one culprit. I don't remember the others. These would be dll's located in the c:\windows\system folder that Crystal accesses.

You may find that when you install a second CR on the same client, that suddenly the first one quits working again. If so, then it's .dll issues. Crystal Decisions tech support can usually track down the problem fairly well.
