Correcting the "Check Number Currently Loaded" number

Off the top of my head, I think it should be OK.

The only potential problem I see is loss of some tracebility. APTran
and GLJrnDtl will reference the original CheckNum. Change those also
and probably good to go.

My cable vendor wants a MAC address before they install our cable connection
next week. I have not purchased a firewall yet. Am I correct that the
firewall will have the MAC address they want? Can I give them a MAC address
from a server to get the ball rolling? How do I find the MAC address? My
understanding is that it is a unique address assigned by the mfg to every
NIC card or device. Is this right?

Suggestions for a firewall for the office and a smaller unit for remote
locations would be appreciated. We want to VPN from the remote sales home
offices (single user) to the main office.

Thanks.

My cable co wanted the MAC too. Actually I told them I had a new PC-Ethernet
card and skipped the details about the switch between the firewall and the
PCs. So my firewall looks like a PC to them. I have a SonicWall SOHO and
the MAC is the same as the serial number. Took awhile to find that out.
Check out the serial number on the firewall and see if it is the right
length to be a MAC. If so it probably is.

You would want to give them the MAC address of the firewall, but many
firewalls can spoof any MAC address. Just depends on what you pick up. I
use the Netgear RP114 Router/Firewall. Tons of features, easy to setup and
use, and it's never given me a problem. You could give them the MAC of your
server, if you really want to expose your server to the internet without a
firewall. I wouldn't recommend that.

To find the MAC address in 95/98, go to Start -> Run. Then type in
"winipcfg" Select the appropriate adapter from the window that appears
(your network card). Push the "More Info" button. There is a field called
"adapter address". That is the MAC address. Should look like:
00-11-AA-22-EE-33. In W2K / XP, launch a command prompt and type "ipconfig
/all" The MAC address is called "Physical Address"

Hope this helps,

I think MAC number has got something to do with the Network Interface Card. My firewall at home detects the MAC # automatically
during the firewall device configuration and it asks if I want to use it. However, the MAC # changes when I go into firewall
configuration from another computer. I am using Time Warner cable services along with EarthLink ISP. Some ISP's do not require a
MAC#.
By the way I am getting connection speeds of over 3MB per sec. some time. The cable installer was in shock when the first time he
did the internet speed test on my PC. The average is about 1.5 -2.0 MB per sec in a long run.

Is there a way to correct the "Check Number Currently Loaded" number? It is
way off and every time the AP clerk runs checks she needs to over-ride the
number.

We are on Vantage 3.X.

Not easily. It goes out to the file every time and locates the highest
numbered check for that bank code. If you mess up and enter a higher
number, you're basically stuck with it.

Two options:
* Create a new bank code and abandon the old one.
* Find the abnormally numbered check. Void it. Write a program to poke
into the file and replace its check number with 1 or something.
Wayne do you know which file it is checking?

Thanks

I tried this in our test company and it worked but before I do it live can
someone see a problem with this?

I linked Excel to the CheckHed file and sorted by Check num. I found the
check number that is the problem and updated it to 1 and 2 respectively.

Saved the file and reran the crystal report and it was updated.

I created a group and it numbered correctly.

All looks good so can anyone see a problem with this?

Thanks.last message I hope about this.
