Anyone hear of a product called Tour de Force; It's a package available for

First of all, we are currently on Vantage 6.1.525. Looking to the
future, not sure when, we will be upgrading to Vantage 8 or 9. We also
use Microsoft Office products that connect to our Microsoft Exchange
server. We are looking to have a better CRM solution than what is
included in Vantage 6.1. From all of your experiences, what CRM
applications/addons do you suggest. With all the hooks that I hear in
Vantage 8. Whould Microsft CRM be a good solution? Any feedback would
be greatly appreciated. Any others?

Joe, We picked up the CRM module back when we got started at 8.00. The module in the 8xx series appears as a product that was never vetted by a sales manager and team. It would get a solid D- when it is compared to 3rd party products like Goldmine, Act, etc. That said, Epicor came out with some bolt-on products (Portal, Service Connect run-time and Information Worker) that when integrated with Outlook appear to be a step in the right direction. It integrates Vantage with Outlook and requires a license only when you are retrieving info from Vantage. To the user, they are using Outlook all day and aren't even aware that the info on prospects, orders and jobs in-process is being retrieved from Vantage. Good stuff. BUT (there is always a but), it isn't cheap. negotiate with your CAM and stick to what functionality you need and what you are willing to pay for it. In our case we went with Act! as it was 1/3 the cost of the trifecta above.
Â
We also looked at Dynamic CRM from Microsoft but the demonstrator was running it remotely from his laptop and kept saying, "It won't be this slow when it is running on your own equipment." You only need to hear this 3-4 times before you get the impression that it REALLY is that slow all the time.

Using the Epicor Portal and Information Worker, you can see Vantage
information within Outlook both online and offline using a sync feature. You
can also have BAQs go right in Excel spreadsheets and do mail merges with
Vantage data. Information Worker gets the data from Portal. If you want to
update records from Office Products, it uses Service Connect - the free
runtime version but if you want to update more than what comes out of the
box then you need the full version.

Microsoft CRM, now called Microsoft Dynamics, is a web-based system that
also works with Outlook (if I understand correctly). You can download a
90-demo from Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/dynamics/crm/default.mspx

We're a smaller group and are currently testing Outlook 2007 with Business
Contact Manager. The BCM portion stores accounts (companies) and contacts
for those accounts in a shared SQL server. We bought the Epicor Productivity
Pyramid which includes Information Worker and Portal and will be giving a
demo next week to the reps. (In our spare time...)

An "out-of-the-box" idea would be to use an online CRM like SalesForce or
SugarCRM and try to integrate that using web services. I think there might
be a user or two on this list who has wandered this way but I haven't heard
any results.

Mark W.
We have been using a web based open source product called vtiger (www.vtiger.com<http://www.vtiger.com>) which is an offshoot of Sugarcrm (www.sugarcrm.com<http://www.sugarcrm.com>). It does not integrate with Vantage but we don't need it to. It's web based so there are no deployment issues. Lots of mods available; I tied mine into Windows LDAP authentication.

We went live with a real-time Salesforce.com/Vantage integration in April and it's great. Salesforce.com is an excellent CRM product and it improves each and every quarter.
Can you elaborate on what is involved. Did you do the integration work
or is there a Salesforce template available? We have Vantage CRM but are
not impressed with it's functionality and it is very slow when trying to
look at pipelines and tasks.

Thanks

It really depends what you are looking for CRM to capture and what you are hoping to get out of CRM.

The basics of the CRM in V8 and E9 are fine, but the tasks can be clunky.

In addition, there is a lot of jumping around screens in E9 if you want to know if a company is a 'child' or a larger company etc.

The CRM package in my opinion lacks simple things like if you want to print a label to stick on an envelope or parcel, you cant unless you write your own Dashboard and BAQ and integrate it into the Customer Maintenance page etc. From a CRM package I would expect this as standard.

I think with Epicor products (whether its CRM, MRP etc) if the information is captured at some point then you can retrieve it.

If you let me know what you want from the CRM I may be able to help further.
