Crystal Report ODBC Login

Its because they loose Maintenance $$$$ for those users who get their support from just this group.
I think its ok to post solutions, just not copy and paste it from Epicor Documents. I know its a big no no to share files that Epicor produced such as patches and programs.

A word of warning....
I would be careful sharing copies of Epicor documents. Epicor WILL come
after you. Several users on this list have gotten nasty grams from Epicor
Attorneys.

AnswerBook #: 3478MPS Product: Vantage
Date Added: 12/12/2003 Version:
Date Changed: 4/27/2004 Module: ODBC

_____

Summary:
ODBC How to setup a file DSN for ODBC for 6.0 and 6.1
Details:
This is as designed and required to meet the SQL-92 standard. However some
administrators would liketo hide the prompt for the password and supply that
behind the scenes. This does reduce the security, but can be done by using a
File DSN.

How to create a file DSN for 6.0 or 6.1

Go to Control Panel -> Admin Tools -> Data Source ODBC
Go to the File DSN tab, Click Add

Select MERANT 3.60 32-BIT Progress SQL92 v9.D
Give it a name: e.g. Mfgsys60 or Mfgsys61

Then

Host Name: < name of database computer running vantage>
Port Number: < port used for the group under the progress explorer tool
supporting SQL users e.g. 6050 or 6150
Database Name: mfgsys
User ID: sysprogress
password: sysprogress

click OK to finish creating the file DSN

Once you have created it, you will need to modify the file. By default this
file is kept in the directory: C:\Program Files\Common Files\ODBC\Data
Sources.
Open the file using Notepad and add the following line:

PWD=<password> <-- THIS IS CASE SENSITIVE, so you will likely use lowercase

BEFORE EDIT

[ODBC]
DRIVER=MERANT 3.60 32-BIT Progress SQL92 v9.1D
UID=SYSPROGRESS
DB=mfgsys
PORT=6050
HOST=mntech

AFTER EDIT

[ODBC]
DRIVER=MERANT 3.60 32-BIT Progress SQL92 v9.1D
UID=SYSPROGRESS
PWD=sysprogress
DB=mfgsys
PORT=6050
HOST=mntech

The UID will already be present as 'sysprogress'. Simply open a new line
just beneath it and add 'PWD=sysprogress'

then save the file

To test the file create a quick Crystal report using the Report Expert and
Standard format, then choose Database ODBC then choose your
file e.g. 'Mfgsys61.dsn' it should connect without asking you to supply the
password.

PLEASE NOTE: Crystal Decisions does not support using a file DSN in compiled
reports.

This has also not been tested with MSAccess.

Currently we create a crystal report in version 8.5 using the Report
Compiler. We save the "compiled" report to the server, and users can
run the report anytime without Crystal or being in Vantage. Problem is
every time you run the report and want to refresh the data; you have to
type in the ODBC password. Is there a way to automatically run the ODBC
password when you first open the report?

To test the file create a quick Crystal report using the Report Expert and
Standard format, then choose Database ODBC then choose your
file e.g. 'Mfgsys61.dsn' it should connect without asking you to supply the
password.

PLEASE NOTE: Crystal Decisions does not support using a file DSN in compiled
reports.

This has also not been tested with MSAccess.

Subject: [Vantage] Crystal Report ODBC Login

Currently we create a crystal report in version 8.5 using the Report
Compiler. We save the "compiled" report to the server, and users can
run the report anytime without Crystal or being in Vantage. Problem is
every time you run the report and want to refresh the data; you have to
type in the ODBC password. Is there a way to automatically run the ODBC
password when you first open the report?
