Crystal Reports DataWorks Bar 39 - not scanning

>> a field will scan on one label and another label with the same data, that field does not scan

I have seen something like this when the field on the label is too small

- so some characters are cut off .

Does anyone else have a problem with scanning barcodes? I can't find a reason, but some fields do not scan. I think even there are some situations where a field will scan on one label and another label with the same data, that field does not scan. The samples I am using do not have any special characters except that some have leading zeroes.
Thanks in advance for any advice,
Karen
Make sure there is enough white space on either end of the label.

Also the direction the labels print also makes a difference. The
barcodes will print with much cleaner lines as long as the barcode
stripe is going the same direction as the label through the printer.

Slowing down the inches per second on the printer sometimes also helps.

Check the problem labels with a bar code verifier if you have one.

Chris brings up great suggestions. Also try increasing the font size. Are
your part numbers long, by chance?

Chris,

I think the white space on sides and above and below the fields on the label made the difference...Also, Vic, your help yesterday about using " a view set up (SQL) that has UserID
and PartTran associated transactions sorted by TranNum descending so it's easy for them to choose their last trx" - I did this in a BAQ. Now, I just have to see what special characters we might have in any of these fields in order to make sure the barcodes work for those scans...And, continue to TEST, TEST, TEST.

Thanks everyone for your help!
Karen

Karen, I'm very curious about this. I have a Symbol LS2208 sitting on my
desk. Feel free to PDF me what isn't scanning and email it to me directly.
I want to see if I can duplicate the problem. The LS2208's are super
reliable; I've never had a hardware problem with them.

I've only seen barcodes NOT scan when:

1) Scanned value isn't enclosed in asterisks

2) Barcode is too long

3) Barcode is truncated within the Crystal field

3) The scanner's laser is encroaching on "Barcode B" while you're trying to
scan "Barcode A"

4) Barcode font is too small / bars are too condensed

5) Scanning from too far away / or too close

Other than that, Code39 is pretty simplistic and that's why it's very
bulletproof.

Have you run through the LS2208 setup document I have posted on the Files
section of the group here under Barcoding?

Make sure there is enough white space on either end of the label.

Also the direction the labels print also makes a difference. The
barcodes will print with much cleaner lines as long as the barcode
stripe is going the same direction as the label through the printer.

Slowing down the inches per second on the printer sometimes also helps.

Check the problem labels with a bar code verifier if you have one.

Hello,

I've been trying to get my BAQ to sort in a descending order all day now and I noticed you said something about doing that (??)...  How did you get the BAQ to sort descending??  I would be so happy to find what is probably staring me right in the face!
