Data Collection-start activity

I see this as a bug as I can recreate it in my environment. At first I
too thought it was a case where an employee was leaving themselves
selected at a workstation and then trying to use data collection at a
different station, or a crash like Todd refers to. I can however make
this happen routinely without those circumstances. I can log into Data
collection, start an activity, deselect myself, go to another
workstation, select employee, click OK and I get record in use error. I
have questioned support on this and they contend they cannot reproduce
it. We are on 6.1.520 and have had this problem at least since going to
version 6. Any other users suffering from this? I would like to know if
there are as I too cannot have people walking all over the place to get
back to the machine they started the day on as I have three different
buildings and people who float between them. Big time waster.

I may be way off base here because we don't use Terminal Services but we
do see fairly frequently where someone can't use a particular DC PC.
Usually it is related to the PC crashing while the employee was selected
and leaving a ghost session in Vantage that is still tied to that
employee. I end up having to shut down that PC, kill all ghost sessions
using Promon and then doing endact.r for the employee in case the labor
detail records are still open (has them on an activity). Then
restarting the PC and DC on it. Once all this is done they can resume
using that location.

Happens mostly frequently for people with their own DC location who
don't "deselect" employee between activities. Raises the chance they
are "selected" when the PC crashes.

Perhaps some of this applies to TS situations?

We are on version 6.00.523, multiplant, utilizing terminal services,
using Wyse 1200 terminals for 4 out of 5 data collection stations.

This is the problem. Employee 1 can't start an activity on data station
A, but can start on an activity on station B. Employee 2 can't start an
activity on station C but can start an activity on Station A and so on.
This doesn't happen every time, but it seems the issue is popping up
more and more. The only machine they don't have this issue on is an old
gateway with duct tape covering an open drive. It is imperative that I
get this figured out. I can't have production associates running around
the plant looking for a machine that likes them. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.
