Shirley,
I have used Global Translation software for number of language
translation. (And several others) We were not happy with the results we
received. We sent our
translation to a customer to review and they had a good laugh.
The process of translating via the software was tedious and very time
consuming. by the time we paid the employee to actually translate the
information and pay for the
software and all the applicable "libraries" we needed it was very
expensive. The libraries our based on what field you are in.
We had to "bag" the software and we use a translation company. Now, on
that issue be very careful on the company you choose. The first go around,
we found a company on the
web. They sounded very good AND they were cheap. But again, our
customer had a good laugh at us. We finally found a great company and they
are willing work on
pricing. If you are interested contact me, and I will give the person
name and phone number who we deal with. They do excellent work.

They have an online area to translate words & phrases but it's always best
to have
someone fluent in the language translate for you. Many translation

translate the meaning - just the words. If you use a software for example
to go from
English to Spanish, also use the tool to translate the same words/phrases
from
Spanish back to English and make sure the translation is correct.
If the you need quick translation, I can translate to/from: German, Dutch,

Jeremy,
One tool you may want to check out is Spy++. It comes with Visual
Studio and would help with debugging if you need to find the handle of
the various Windows. There is sample vb code on the internet that has
similar functionality to Spy++. To get a solution like this to work I'm
sure you will have to get creative. Having the windows you listed be
the top four items in the favorites bar would be one "simple" way to do
it.
The problem is -- as far as I know -- Vantage does not expose an object
model which would easily facilitate the type of remote control you need.

Subject: RE: [Vantage] Visual Basic/Progress
Controlling the vantage user interface from a Visual Basic
application is a
proposition I never thought of.
The only way to open the sales order tracker from a VB
application is
something I would consider impossible. However, a progress
program from
within vantage might possibly be able to do just that. Calling
the progress
program from visual basic.... That gets hairy.
All this may be possible, but I would just as soon embed my own
sales order
tracker in the VB application, as I think that would be the
easier task, and
you wouldn't have to rewrite the program entirely when the
vantage user
interface is rewritten.
You should consider purchasing the Progress Appserver and the
Open Client.
That would give you the ability to call progress queries from
Visual Basic /
ASP (and of course Java and JSP) applications, and eliminate
ODBC headaches.
We are doing just that. Microsoft has put ODBC and ADO for ODBC
drivers on
the planned obsolescence list, which is the final straw that
axed ODBC from
my list of possible solutions. I was never crazy about putting
my business
logic (query code) at the mercy of the ever changing MS data
access
technologies.
The purchase of the AppServer and Open Client has already been
approved.
Our 25 user licensing costs are running around $4700, but given
the time
I'll no longer be wasting using inefficient means for
transferring Vantage
data to my Visual Basic applications, its more than worth the
cost. Plus
you get to run your queries on the Server Side, drastically
speeding them up
if your server has the horsepower.
In the mean time I am using a proprietary client-side disk based
data
transfer scheme that uses XML/ADO. Inefficient, and a bit memory
intensive
for large queries, but it gets the job done.

I'm hoping someone could help me with this. I am writing a

like for the user to be able to right mouse click on the sales

I recall from when I was a computer programmer 10yrs ago doing
french/english product rating labels that, for detailed instructions where
wording was critical, none of the language-translation software would do it
well enough. We had to pay to have it done, in order to be sure. Just
think of some of the crummy asian motherboard instructions you've had to
follow - poor translation reflects badly on the product and company.

we don't have to pay each time we need a new language or revision. I'll
have to show him this thread.
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I'll check them out as well.
Thanks Shirly - your timing for this was perfect!

currently have a .P program to export the fields that I list to

an easier way to do this, other than listing out all the fields?

EXPORT DELIMITER "~011" Part.

OUTPUT CLOSE.
This is some code I found on the vantage usergroup file site that exports to
a tab delemited file. I'm sure you could change the delimiter.

D-Link makes decent KVM switches that are priced rather competitively. I
use a d-link 4-port in my cubicle, so I can hook up a workstation, a test
server, and whatever user PC's I happen to be working on at the time. I'd
consider the D-Link to be a reliable product.
We use a Belkin 8-Port in our server rack, and have had no problems.

One last note on the Cybex unit. I hook and unhook computers form this box
all the time without shutting anything down. I usually live in the computer
room and do any computer builds/installs from an unused port on the Cybex.
I shut down the computer I am hooking up but nothing else.

Aaron -
Thanks for the tips. I'll try your technique. My only concern is the risk
of unplugging/plugging the cables into a power live box. On the first day I
installed my Belkin, I blew the board in it. Belkin replaced it for me
under warranty but thought it was because I was attaching cables while the
box was powered up.
So short of buying a new Cybex switch that others say has no problem like
this, I'll first try your workaround the next time it fails.

Bob, and others that have expressed this is an issue,
Sorry, I was away for the weekend, but I have found the solution to this.
We use a 4 port Belkin on our servers. I had this same keyboard mouse
lockup. The solution is this:
Remove the power cord (if you use it) totally, it uses power from the
computers anyway.
Now when the mouse and keyboard are locked up, unplug the keyboard and
mouse
from the KVM (not the KVM to the computers). Now plug them back in and
move
the mouse and tap cap locks twice on the keyboard (just to be sure the
lights agree). Now right click the mouse and then click outside the
pop-up
(it gets confused with click and right click until you do this). This
works
every time for ours. Sometimes one specific machine will still have a
problem. The answer is to switch to that computer and perform the
operation
above again. You should find functionality comes back. I can't count the
number of times I used VNC to operate my servers before I figured this
out.
Please let me know if I am the only one this works for. If not, maybe we
should clue in Belkin. :)
Good luck,
Aaron Hoyt

I have a UNIX SCO server along with my Vantage PC workstation running
WIN98
2nd Edition. Have used Belkin KVM switch for about 3 years, even before
Vantage install. Great space saving tool!
BUT, periodically through day, my cursor and keyboard on PC lockup and
only
recovery is restart. Belkin says that can happen! No fix? My UNIX
machine
never fails, by the way.

Any way to stop from having the packing slip being able to be pulled from a work order that has already been shipped complete or posted to stores. For instance the work order has 10pcs on it and 5 have shipped and 5 have went to finished goods but the person who pulls the packing slip can still pull more from manufacturing or post more to stock even though it has already been posted complete.
Tim Ligas wrote:2 excellent enhancements that will be available after applying the 5.20.207
patch:
1. The Issues/Returns program now considers the Negative Quantity Action
field when the bin is going to go negative: It can stop the action, issue a
warning and let the user decide, or do nothing and allow the bin to go
negative. Previously, no consideration was made and the value would be 0 or
none (i.e. the value of the bin would go negative).
2. A new program, VB Form Map, has been added to System Management Vantage
Basic in Vantage. You can use this program to relate VB Form tables used in
the Get Details process to each other. You can also use this program to
relate VB Form tables used in the Engineering Workbench to the manufacturing
details VB Forms in the Part master file. For example, you can map the
ECOMtl VB form (the source) to the PartMtl VB form (the target), then map
the PartMtl VB form (the source) to the JobMtl VB form (the target). This
allows you to enter the value once in the ECOMtl VB form and carry it
through the revision check-in from the Engineering Workbench through
the Get Details process in Job Entry to the job's material automatically.
One important note: The VB form fields must be of the same data type and
control type. I.E. A checkbox cannot be mapped to a character fill-in
field.

Babette,
This is our procedure for SQL89...should be the same for SQL92. You'll
need to add the following lines to that autoexec.bat:
SET DLC=V:\PROGRESS
SET IDLC=V:\PROGRESS
SET PROMSGS=V:\PROGRESS\promsgs
SET IPROMSGS=V:\PROGRESS\promsgs
SET PROCFG=V:\PROGRESS\progress.cfg
...where V is the drive letter you've mapped to run Vantage from.
You'll also want to copy V:\PROGRESS\BIN\prosql32.dll to the
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder (for win9x) or C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM (for
NT-based). Finally, after you have opened Crystal once, edit the
registry key HKCU\Software\SeagateSoftware\Crystal
Reports\DatabaseOptions\OuterJoin\OpenIngres and set it to ivpro15 for
SQL92 or ivpro14 for SQL89 (if you are not sure just use ivpro15).

Greetings all,
Since upgrading from Vantage 4.0 to 5.1 a couple weeks ago, our users are
getting daily "System is out of resources" error messages while utilizing
Vantage. This is even when no other applications are running. I could
understand (maybe) if this was occurring on our old Data Collection Pentium
166's but it is also occurring on Pentium 4's with 256Meg Ram.
We have PC's running Win95, Win98, Win2000 and WinXP and they all exhibit the
same behavior at some point during the day.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
