OT: Language Translation Software

I'd like to thank everyone too, I'm looking at some software from World
Language. www.worldlangauge.com that might fit our need. We have a large
number of Bosnian folks. The croatian/serbian software translators are few
and far between. What I'm looking at is about $69.95 and might be just
enough. We are going to have a someone that knows the language proofread
before issuing. (dont want a "put hand in press and close" to go out)

Unfortunately my case is a little more complex. Our tech writer is

for something that will translate our user manuals into various languages

we don't have to pay each time we need a new language or revision. I'll

Does anyone know if Progress 9.1D uses the same ODBC driver as 9.1C? I have
searched the Progress website and cant find the answer.

The version of the odbc installed of the 9.1D cd that we loaded here was SQL
92 3.60.0000.

I have used Global Translation software for number of language translation. (And several others) We were not happy with the results we received. We sent our
translation to a customer to review and they had a good laugh.

The process of translating via the software was tedious and very time consuming. by the time we paid the employee to actually translate the information and pay for the
software and all the applicable "libraries" we needed it was very expensive. The libraries our based on what field you are in.

We had to "bag" the software and we use a translation company. Now, on that issue be very careful on the company you choose. The first go around, we found a company on the
web. They sounded very good AND they were cheap. But again, our customer had a good laugh at us. We finally found a great company and they are willing work on
pricing. If you are interested contact me, and I will give the person name and phone number who we deal with. They do excellent work.

our employees. We didnt need something to translate important documents.

Shirley -

Check out: www.systransoft.com
They have an online area to translate words & phrases but it's always best
to have
someone fluent in the language translate for you. Many translation
softwares don't
translate the meaning - just the words. If you use a software for example
to go from
English to Spanish, also use the tool to translate the same words/phrases
from
Spanish back to English and make sure the translation is correct.

If the you need quick translation, I can translate to/from: German, Dutch,
Spanish,
Polish, Russian, Japanese, French, Hindi. My Mandarin and Korean are pretty
rusty.

I'll give the suggestions a try, Hopefully, everybody here will stick to
short phrases and single words. I'm sure I can't go too wrong with
"DANGER", or "STOP", with my luck it'll turn out to be something like "Hey
Sailor" or something.

Check out: www.systransoft.com
They have an online area to translate words & phrases but it's always best
to have
someone fluent in the language translate for you. Many translation
softwares don't
translate the meaning - just the words. If you use a software for example
to go from
English to Spanish, also use the tool to translate the same words/phrases
from
Spanish back to English and make sure the translation is correct.

If the you need quick translation, I can translate to/from: German, Dutch,
Spanish,
Polish, Russian, Japanese, French, Hindi. My Mandarin and Korean are
pretty
rusty.

Unfortunately my case is a little more complex. Our tech writer is looking
for something that will translate our user manuals into various languages so
we don't have to pay each time we need a new language or revision. I'll
have to show him this thread.

Rick,

I recall from when I was a computer programmer 10yrs ago doing
french/english product rating labels that, for detailed instructions where
wording was critical, none of the language-translation software would do it
well enough. We had to pay to have it done, in order to be sure. Just
think of some of the crummy asian motherboard instructions you've had to
follow - poor translation reflects badly on the product and company.
