I do not have alocation in China, but for those of you running
Exchange have you thought about using RPC over HTTPS? It uses
certificates on the client for authentication. Check out the link

This also works well for laptop users that travel a lot and you dont
need to bother with a VPN or OWA.

With that said I am not sure how this will work with China. There
traffic is HEAVILY monitored.

This may or may not help since it sounds as if your email is hosted by an outside vendor.

We have a plant in Eaton, Ohio and one in Suzhou, China. We run an internal/local Novell GrouypWise email system here and intended to have the China folks VPN in to get email. The reality of the matter is connections from/to China are monitored heavily. VPN traffic is not especially reliable, sometimes unavailable. Our folks in China now use the Webaccess portion of GroupWise to get thier email. They access the internet and get a "browser" based version of the GroupWise client. It is still client/server based, they just use a different interface.

My inclination would be that china government censors are at work. One work
around that I used for a rep in china was a terminal server connection, (our
rep could browse the web at will without censorship), but if you are
exchanging documents that would be another issue.

All the previous emails regarding censorship are true. Basically we do the same, we have them access their emails through a webmail function. We have our email hosted externally.

Another possibility is that your provider is Blocking Asian Spam with
Postfix CIDR block lists.

I personally maintain a Unix Sendmail access.db hash table and block/deny
ALL Chinese, Korean and Taiwanese IP Blocks not to mention Countries of
Origin (Black listed); then do specific Allows for those specific Customers
and Suppliers we want to exchange email with (White listed).

I suspect your host provider may be doing similar.

Funny you should mention this. Just yesterday, 10/10/05, our (2)
China facilities did not receive any email from our facility, they
were receiving it from others though. After reviewing dnsreport.com
my consultant felt that the ISP who had set up their email server had
not done a good job and that mail receipt would be sporatic at best.

My CEO just requested that I look into this issue for some kind of a
resolution. If would be interested if you come up with something.
