E9 ( V8?) non-stock parts

Our experience is different on both 6.1 and now 8.03. We use the non-stock for manufactured parts that are "made to order". If the part is checked as a non-stock part, when sales enters an order, the sales order defaults to Make direct. This implies that a job for the part will made specifically for this sales order and linked accordingly. Also, the existence of a sales order will generate a job suggestion to create the job.

If it were a non-stock part and an order was entered, the order make-direct box would be unchecked and the assumption would be that the manufactured parts will be pulled from stock. Since we're a custom builder, we almost always have assemblies set as non-stock items and make to order.

What they meant was parts that do not exist in the part master. The non-stock flag only impacts certain defaults or report selection criteria. For example, if a part exists in the part master but is flagged as non-stock if referenced in a BOM the default will be to purchase direct. You can however override this default.

Good Day:

In E9 training they said that non-stock parts are " must be
bought\linked to PO\WO)", so 12 different SO's will generate 12 PO lines
- cannot be summarized ( again, if Part# is non-stock).

E9 users: In practice, do 95-98 % NOT have the non-stock box checked?

V8 users: If the same, same question.

In Manage 2000, it was completely different.
