**RETRO FIX FOR SCR 132127 - Database Purge and Summarize - Purge of Transactions (PartTran) hangs and does not complete





Labor and Journal Details just doesn't seem to do anything. We start them, and they just sit there. Shows as an active task for days. Unlike the others that work, The Activity Message area stays blank, and the Start Time and Last Activity Time are identical. What is weird is that the working PID is gone after a while, though. Heck, it could be working and the System Monitor doesn't know it. LOL You cannot cancel the activity. You have to restart the appservers to get rid of that active task. We have purged all of the other items, with no problem. Well, so far. We are in the middle of testing it, before we do it in our production environment.

We have been trying to convert a database to E10 from Progress 905.702A for quite some time. We keep having errors and believe it is related to the age of some of our data. We started using Vantage 2.40 back in 1996 and have never purged data. I’m looking to find someone that has older data that has successfully migrated it to E10 or even just people in the same boat as our company. Epicor support doesn’t seem well equipped to help us.Â

 

Any comments relative to this would be appreciated.

My 2 cents would be to ask if you have considered if re-implementing is at all an option.  Data that old will be built on a platform of features nowhere near what is available now.  Even if the database is “modern” the legacy data in there will seriously tie your hands using the latest system optimally.  Over that much time the company has probably also changed significantly so re-implementing opens the possibility for re-engineering the system and all the static codes so that they match the current state of things.

 

DMT is a really nice tool for importing what legacy data you need to bring forward.  In combo with something like MS Access to massage the data (update Operations, Work Centers, departments, etc.. before importing) it is pretty easy.  We are 90% done moving from Vantage 6.1 and a cloud system used for 2 years and were able to weed out thousands of obsolete records (old customers, suppliers and parts).

Progress can be tricky to convert… You need to make sure you have open edge installed and running. Once all the files were in place for OE, it ran just fine…

Ditto. We have three open issues with the purging of Journal Entries, Change Log and Part Transactions in 9.05.702a x32 SQL. Would rather purge under 9.05 as part of the conversion to E10.

We have to keep all or most of our old data for business reasons. We have tried the purge utility for E905, but have not had it run successfully yet.

We've received a fix for the Transactions (PartTran) part of the purge from Epicor.  We are on Progress 9.05.702A 64-bit.   Made it run much faster.  Unfortunately, they didn't have a fix for Journal Details and Labor.   All other items purged fine for us.

Our issue is the newly created consolidation entries don't have the Plant so they don't appear on the Part Transaction History.

You can't purge everything on one run. Try splitting it up into the first 6 months, next 6 months etc. For some, you may have to use 5 months or 4 etc.

Very frustrating. I called EPICOR 3x times telling them I am on day 2, 4, 10 of a purge. Also about well the speed of your system and size of your DB dictates. Then I call them and tell them that it is not doing anything anymore and asked for some type of documentation. Response was to get a consultant. So I requested one and no one has gotten back to me. Now I know why.

Labor and Journal Details just doesn't seem to do anything. We start them, and they just sit there. Shows as an active task for days. Unlike the others that work, The Activity Message area stays blank, and the Start Time and Last Activity Time are identical. What is weird is that the working PID is gone after a while, though. Heck, it could be working and the System Monitor doesn't know it. LOL You cannot cancel the activity. You have to restart the appservers to get rid of that active task. We have purged all of the other items, with no problem. Well, so far. We are in the middle of testing it, before we do it in our production environment.
