Ken,

When we were implementing Vantage (2 years ago), I took every class Epicor
offered. For us, it was relatively inexpensive, since there is an Epicor
training facility in Burlington, MA, only 40 miles from here, there were no
traveling expenses. I think the training classes, however, depend greatly
on the knowledge of the instructor. I have had some really wonderful
instructors who knew Vantage inside and out and also some very poor
instructors who came from other Epicor products and whom I had to explain
things to, so it's difficult to say which classes were the best, because my
opinion is somewhat biased based on the instructor. However, the classes I
personally found most useful were:

Implementation Essentials - You must take this class before setting up your
system.

Report Builder - Teaches you how to create reports in report builder. Also
includes a great book and disk to take home of the reports you can use in
your shop.

Crystal Reports - Teaches you how to modify existing Vantage forms and also
how to create crystal reports using ODBC. Again, great book and disk of
your reports to take home.

Controller's Workshop - Wonderful for showing how costs move in Vantage.
May be a little over-your-head if you do not have an accounting background.

Materials Management - Teaches you how to set-up parts, handle inventory,
purchasing, etc.

Visual Scheduling -Explains the scheduling functionality in Vantage and how
to use it in your environment.

I also did every tutorial that came with 3.0. I liked the tutorials with
3.0 MUCH better than the ones that came with 4.0. Not sure what they are
like in 5.0 since I haven't taken that step yet. I found the tutorials to
be the greatest resource, and the second greatest to be Vantage support and
the one-list. Every time I came across something I didn't understand in
Vantage I called Vantage support or posted it on the onelist and always got
an answer that same day.

HTH,

Sarah
Thanks very much Sarah
I appreciate the imput

Ken

Ditto to Sarah's list. I would add one thought - you can get at least a
good overview of most of the classes by attending Perspectives and focusing
on the LAB sessions. If you have to travel to an education site you might
has well travel to Perspectives and get 4 or 5 classes (in abreviated,
non-hands on, form). Then go home, play with what you learned and then take
the classes you still think you need. For a new site administrator I can
think of nothing better than the Perspectives sessions. I use the session
notes books (that's BOOKS not CD) with my notes written in them every month
or two. The CD last year I printed and tried to add my notes to after the
fact. Take good notes.
Good luck,
-Todd C.
