Epicor Custom Solutions

That is the boat we are in. Not just a "customization" but new
forms, adapters, .p, etc. I have SDK just no time to learn to use
it.

advanced customizations and recompiling source for upgrades. We have
been dealing with a project for over 2 years that they keep F*^&ing up

We had exactly one customization we asked them to do. It took them 3 months to get the first pass done. I had two very important, but very minor changes (one was a checkbox, the other was a price pulling in that the function done manually it occured, i.e. there was a process that needed to be called). It took over 6 months and dozens of e-mail/phone calls, supervisor, cams, etc to get these changes done.

Then we wanted to move from .403 to .404 because of some bug fixes we had, come to find out they had compiled the customization to work only on .403 (the functionality likely worked but there was no way to test it as it would ONLY run on 403) and they expected us to pay for them to recompile to 404.

Since this customization, I've spent a lot of time learning customization on my own and will likely have to redo this customization on my own so when we upgrade in the future we don't have to pay them to hit the re-compile button. Yes, I can understand if there were changes that were needed do to changes in the schema, etc, but like all other customizations we should be able to test it on our own and go back to them if such changes are needed. We should not have to pay for them to click compile on a new version.

Needless to say, we have been extremely disappointed in the entire process as well. Depending what you're looking for this list has been huge in helping me figure out tweaks, you could probably find someone here that would do the customization work for a fee or offer help directing you through your own customization.

To answer your question, I haven't looked for anyone outside of Epicor to do customizations, but I'm sure you'll get responses here. I guess I just wanted to join the gripe fest about the Epicor custom solutions group.

So, what is the customization you're looking to have done?

We paid to have some MES customizations done to allow someone to
issue material in MES without having the AMM module - however the
modification failed and then immediately afterwards the programmer
who created the solution left Epicor.

I'm now asking for our refund - as I believe our non-functioning
customization disappeared from their vision. I'm coming to believe
that group is extremely unorganized and doesn't really track whether
what they implemented met or succeeded in what the customer wanted.
In our case, it didn't work period.

At the risk of dumping liquid gold onto the fire, I will add a couple
pennies:

We have purchased what we would call a modification and a customization.
The 'mod' is a rewriting of the precompiled, encrypted, progress .p
procedure. It is very version specific, as the .p procedures are
routinely updated between versions/patches. There is no one I am aware
of that has the code to these procedures other than Epicor - not even
the SDK contains this info.
The customization, was just that. Code written into the forms called by
Vantage. I am impressed at how base methods can be manipulated to do
what was wanted and even learned a bit by viewing the code.
Unfortunately, the user tool manual, the SDK guides contain NOTHING
that even comes close to documenting what can be done within
customizations. The customisation was purchased based upon 8.03.305 but
as it is a customization, it workes with 8.00.811 and 8.03.404 just
fine.

It took quite a few tries for the custom programming group to deliver
this customization to us and it spanned months. The final product
delivered was actually written using an incorrect adapter for a lookup
which I fixed myself. I alerted the custom programming group of the
error and asked for a corrected version. That was several months ago
and I am still waiting.
