I’ve got an idea. I think I’m gonna start work on my own ERP.
Shouldn’t be that difficult. Bookmark this post for a couple years from now.

Seems oddly familiar…

What is it with Kevins doing their own ERP???

Well, this just highlights that it’s already a thing. Is it something that’s do-able yet @Mark_Wonsil ? Are there enough products that fit well enough together and have enough usefulness and cost effectiveness to start challenging monolithic ERP systems?
I haven’t seen it. People wildly underestimate the integration. It’s a nice idea though…
Conceptually great. Implementable? unknown. Every piece of software should be able to talk to any other piece - in the end that’s all we want, right? Everything with an open API. And data? Universal data model? Layers of data layer anonymization clogging the pipes.
Layers upon layers of API code for these pieces to communicate just takes the place of our current problem and then some vendor changes the API tool set that you use and you have to rewrite.
As long as there are vendors in the loop, we’re screwed.
This really sounds much like what Microsoft was aiming for back when they bought Great Plains Dynamics, Navision, etc and started to sell them as modules to build a ERP to your companies needs.
Down with vendors! Er…um…

Subscription license with source code.
Works for them financially and for us control wise. They go out of business, source is open.
Our configurator (D3Ruler) not only integrates with ERP BOM, it also does 3D CAD models and 2D drawings and we have the source code. They customize to our needs, working in our SCM, deploying to our servers. We can dev/deploy ourselves if we want.

May the Flying Spaghetti Monster and his noodly appendages continue blessing Support with the wisdom not to create a “send to @aidacra” button. While I do enjoy working with…most…<cough> of you, any meaningful attempt at scaling Support should probably involve something other than me continuing to reenact Sisyphus on a permanent basis as I am still working through the residual effects of my previous X “unsolvable problem solver” designations from those things..and times.

I am beginning to think it is because i reached out to my guys at EPICOR.
It seems that they are doing a Survey on moving to the cloud and wanted to get an input from the customer base on what are the factors that make a move to Kinetic cloud challenging and undesirable for our organisation.
Like is said i was in two minds how this has come about.
September 26, 2025:
If Epicor stopped selling On-Prem licenses long before that, this blog post sounds like complete Bait, especially since CVC back in 2024 said they are looking forward to making Epicor the best in-class SaaS.
This is part of the Lock-In thread, so I’m moving my reply there.
Hey stranger,
Glad to see you alive and kicking (albeit probably chained to desk somewhere)
Idk if AI generated spam will garner any kickbacks, but I guess its worth a shot.

Have you tested this on browser yet? For cloud users in browser it is going to pull it down in its own .zip file which you have to rezip to put it back. Yeah browser upgrade is going to go from bad to worse.
They knocked the From Stability part of that out of the park.
