I'm trying to put a customization in the Engineering workbench under the Material, Detail tab. I'm trying to put in a simple drop down that will reference the JCDept table. I can put a drop down in no problem, and select and see the departments. I then save, approve the part and check the part in. When i go to check the part back out though, the selections i made earlier are gone and i am left with a blank field. I have tried using UltraCombo, Retriever combo, and a epi drop down. I am binding to ECOMtl.ShortChar01. I have done similar customizations elsewhere which work, but i can't figure this one out. Any thoughts?

You need to create an entry in the Custom Field Map in the System Management | Utilities folder for both directions. This will link your fields back and forth from the ECO tables to the Part tables, etc.

Thanks for the quick response but i don't think that solves my problem. I'm trying to pull in the JCDept table and that table is not an option in field map maintenance. The second part of this which would be taking it from the ECOMtl table to the JobMtl table doesn't seem to be handled by Field Mapping either. I can make my target table ECOMtl and my source table JobMtl. But wouldn't this pull the data in the wrong direction? Also I still can't get it to save the data in ECOMtl table.

The JCDept data is only coming from a retriever combo. You are linking the JCDept ID to the shortchar01.

The idea is that you are using *.shortchar01 in the ECOMtl, PartMtl and JobMtl tables. When you check in and out, and move data around between these tables, the shortchar01 field maintains the same data. If you want to see the data in all of the tables you will need to add a retriever combo for JCDept to the method tracker, EWB, QuoteEntry and Job Entry, etc. They would all bind to shortchar01 in this example. Create an entry for whatever tables you want to transport the data, and typically in both directions.

In custom field maintenance, map ECOMtl.ShortChar01 to PartMtl.ShortChar01. Then, do it the other way around. That should cover checking out and in parts.
