Error after new installation of Vantage and Crystal Reports

Thank you everyone for all your help. I'll pass this along to Karol.

Linda,

Niegal is correct, that you must have the latest version of Crystal
Runtime installed on ALL machines. The version he listed is the latest,
correct one. This was a bug introduced in 8.03.400 version coming from
earlier versions. Your IT person will need to update his CD with this
latest version and only install this version.

One additional note on this, it is imperative that you UNINSTALL any
previous version of the Crystal Runtime edition PRIOR TO installing the
newest version.

I can confirm this DOES solve the problem as we had a couple of
customers plagued by this issue.

Hi Group,

Thank you Nigel, Karl and Charlie for all your help in solving our
problem.

Karol (IT person) has recently created a cd that he uses to setup new
computers and this seems to be the cause of the problem. If he installs
the Crystal runtime from the Vantage server, everything works fine, but
if he installs it from the cd then the Crystal ODBC reports won't work.

Linda

Hi Linda,

There may be some other program installed which also uses the
runtime, but installed a different version as part of it's setup. (I
presume you don't have the actual program Crystal Reports installed
on this machine?)

Try uninstalling the runtime, then open My Computer and look through
the hard drives for any remaining folders names "Business Objects" or
Crystal Reports" - they may be in Program Files or Program Files
\Common Files.

If you find any, add ".bak" onto the end of the folder name - that
way you can always undo should problems arise. Then re-install the
runtime.

Since this is a new computer; is it running windows XP or Windows Vista? If it is Windows Vista then that is the problem. I have never been able to get any ODBC report to run using Windows Vista. Luckily, the only people running Windows Vista in our company are myself and our Network Administrator. I know Vantage is supposed to be certified for Windows Vista, but then they really don't want to support the use of ODBC. I have never called this in as an issue because it has not become critical. It sounds like it may be for you.

Subject: [Vantage] Re: Error after new installation of Vantage and
Crystal
Reports

This isn't an ODBC problem - it's a problem with the Crystal Runtime
program.

If you're on v8.03.40#, make sure you have the latest version of the
runtime installed - "Crystal Reports XI R2 .Net 3.0 Runtime
(03_05_2008).msi". It's supposed to have fixed the problem.

Nigel.
