Error Printing shipping labels Vantage 6.1

Vantage 6.1.512 is giving us the 534 error when printing the Crystal
Shipping label. It looks like this is a known problem, see below.

Has anyone seen this and corrected it on 6.1? I wish there was some way to
find out about this type of "known" problem before upgrading.

Also, It seems we have lost some Part Transaction History since the upgrade.
Has anyone seen this?

Summary Getting error 534 when printing shipping labels

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

Tested on our version for 6.10.511

Canned shipping label does not print, receive an error 534.

In Customer Shipment when print preview or print Shipping Labels for the

first time for the specific Customer Shipment, receive "Error 534", when

using the standard Crystal form SHIPLABL.RPT. If print or print preview the

same Customer Shipment it prints or print previews without the error. The

problem occurs if use the printer icon or use the File then print option,

with print option of Shipping Labels or Both.

Steps to duplicate:

1) Materials Management > Shipping/Receiving > General Operations > Customer

Shipment Entry.

2) At the Packing Slip field, use the search button to select an existing

customer shipment that contains a line item.

3) Select the Print button or from top menu bar select File then Print.

4) On the Print Packing Slip/Label screen select Shipping Label for print

option. Mark the print preview checkbox and select the print button. On the

Print preview screen the "Error 534" will be displayed.

RESPONSE FROM DEVELOPMENT

SCR 8218

Due to a known issue, each time that a user prints or previews shipping

labels without leaving the Print Packing Slip / Labels screen, an extra

Company field gets added to the .dbf files. This field is harmless unless

the developer uses them as the basis for a Crystal form. Long-term, Vantage

8.00 will not use .dbf files, so we just need to correct the form for now.

To do this, I recommend the following:

1) In Customer Shipment Entry, select a packing slip.

2) Print shipping labels without previewing them first. You will get a 534

error, but that's OK for now. Leave the screen without printing or

previewing again.

3) In Crystal Reports, verify the shipping-label form

(userform/shiplabl.rpt) against the .dbf files that were generated in step

2.

Note: Changing the report format to Progress made no changes in the receipt

of the error.

WORKAROUND: Preview the labels before printing them.

Here's the procedure. I would strongly recommend against 15 minutes. It is way too short. I initially thought that would be good. Be even set at 1 hour, people were getting kicked out left and right, especially after lunch. We re-set it to 2 hours and haven't had a complaint yet. We'll probably settle around 90 minutes.

Anyway, here is the setup.

HOW TO SETUP THE PROGRESS ClientTimeOut

With Progress 9.1D03, Progress has made available a timeout feature.

To implement the feature the following lines must be added to the Startup
registry key on the server. This process applies to all clients connected to
the database.

Where 'n' is the number of minutes after which the user will be disconnected
if there is no activity. Again, this is a server parameter so all users will
be affected by this setting. Activity is defined as mouse and keyboard
activity from client to server.

This ClientTimeOut parameter can be put into the registry of the following
key, by default this key will not exist so will need to be created.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PSC\PROGRESS\9.1D\STARTUP

Once you open the Startup Key, from the top select EDIT > NEW > STRING. The
string name is called "ClientTimeOut" in the value field put in how many
minutes till disconnection.

Once the changes have been made you will need to reboot the server for
progress to reread the registry on startup of the Admin Service.

Thank you for the quick response. I will setup the registry key(s) and
reboot the server tonight. Management has made the call, even after
taking your suggestion into consideration, and wants to stick with
15min. I hope they like to listen to users complain as much as I do.

office data collection workaround to allow 'power users' to never time out.
Basically, you can give users access to office data collection which
refreshes itself every so often. If someone has that open, they will not
get timed out. Only give access to it to people who need the always on.
The majority of users still get timed out.

What is the service pack level for progress? I had the same problem
when I was on an early
version level. Right now I am on 9.1D05. Look in the progress
directory for version and open with notepad.

So I added the registry key last night and rebooted the server. Now,
every 45 minutes the server goes down and needs to be rebooted. Any

exempt from getting booted :-)

Still not fixed, or currently implemented. I was trying to download the
service pack (9) from epicor's website and it was having issues logging
me in. I plan on trying again today. After I download and install the
patch, I will let you know if it fixed it.

Stephen, our programmer, just added this to the registry on our new Win 2003
server. Were running patch level 8 on Progress 9.1d. Were going from 5.2
to 6.0 and then 6.1 this weekend. Were running close on the ClientTimeOut
feature. I'll let you know if we have problems on this patch level.

Out of the box Vantage 6.1 has some crazy fonts. Someone from the group

Sure, I remember that one off the top of my head. Open MFGSYS.INI up and scroll almost the bottom of the document.

You will then see:

font23=??????
font24=??????


The ??? representing what the current font is. Replace what is there with the following:

font23=FixedSys
font24=FixedSys

Change the following in mfgsys61.ini

font23=FixedSys,size=10
font24=FixedSys,size=10

I then made the file read only after I set all my default settings in Report Builder. Otherwise, everytime you run an install it copies these values over.

Thanks for the information!! This is what I was looking for. It fixed my
problem.

BTW, Vantage support could not help me on this, so I e-mailed them the fix.
They told me this wasn't a common problem.

.....I guess it is an enhancement.
