We had this happen on three clients when we upgraded to 5.2 a while ago. I
remember initially thinking there was no bar to grab on the right side of
the pane. But then I realized the right edge of the window was actually
thicker than the left edge. I moved the curser over the right edge real
slow and noticed it flickered. There actually was another border there.

There is no bar margin to grab. You can resize the entire window to make
the margins easier to grab but they are the window margins not the bar
margin. All you end up doing is resizing the entire window. Just under
the
favorites bar at the top of the screen are several lines of random
patterns
in black. This area changes width/color as you resize the window
vertically. As the trash lines get wider they may overwrite the first
icon
in the favorites bar display. The trash lines go away if you uncheck the
favorites toolbar so it doesn't display.

The mouse pointer DOESN'T change when you get to the right place to change
the width of the Favorites Bar. Click on the bar margin, press left-mouse
button and move the mouse. If it doesn't change, you're not on the right
place... keep experimenting with the location.
