Re reporting quarters in the report writer

From Vantage Help
Number of Periods

The number of fiscal periods that will be used to accumulate data inside
this column. Available if this column is either an Actuals or Budget
column type, enter the number of periods in this field.
Example: You want to see the budgeted amounts for a single fiscal
period. Enter 1 for the number of periods for the current Budget column.

My help
For a quarter enter #3 periods assuming your GL calendar is 12 periods

So if you want a report with 4 columns for 4 quarters set up the column
set as follows

Enter 3 in the number of periods for each column

In the first column enter 9 as the period offset - this will then print
the total of periods 1 thru 3

In the 2nd column enter offset of 6

3rd enter 3

4th enter 0

Then run the report as at period 12 of the year - the 0 in the last
column will mean print period 12 and the #3 periods will print periods
12,11 and 10.

Try also the roll periods option to see what you get

Happy playing

Tony

Hello,

[Vantage 8]

I just got word from our controller that because of the limitations of
Vantage's financial reporting, she would like to find a way to export GL
transactions from Vantage to QuickBooks so that she can use QuickBooks
solely for financial reporting.

Her issues with Vantage are:

"Unless we design several new Crystal financials, I wouldn't be able to
print a P&L by product group or enter a range of dates to print by
quarter or a specified time period; there is no cash flow statement; I
can't select a range of dates for the balance sheet or run a previous
period comparison; etc."

Has anyone found a way to tackle the limitations of financial reporting
in Vantage OR does anyone have any input on exporting GL transactions
from Vantage?

We looked at FRx and it didn't seem to fit our needs.

Thanks,

I know that QuickBooks can read from Excel, so I would suggest creating
some table views in your DB under a different user schema and make an
ODBC connection to them with Access. From within you can build a macro
to export your queries into an excel spread sheet. I'm sure there are
probably other ways but being an access guru, that is how I would
approach it.

I really think that FRx would give you what you want. I understand that
it probably offers more than you need but like the old saying goes,
'It's better to have insurance and not need it, than to need insurance
and not have it'

Also if I recall correctly, you are currently testing 803. Is it your
plan to export data to QuickBooks now and then again in 803?

I don't know how much power your controller has but it appears to me she
is being stubbornly inflexible.

I don't envy you.

Speaking from V 6.1 we were able to do a lot of customization using the
built in Financial Report Designer from General Ledger /Setup/ to get
the financials to an exact fit to how we wanted to view the information.
I just took a brief glance into our 8.03 pilot and it looks like it is
still there.

It is a little cumbersome to figure out at first, but once you do, you
will be able to sail through the creation process.

Joe-

Has your controller attended the Controller's Workshop? Using the
Financial Report Designer, I believe most requests could be met.

Thanks!

Is there a class solely for reporting? Because I did go to the
controllers workshop and they didn't really go into how you design your
own reports only how to run what is pre-programmed. Nothing about
getting the information out on a quarterly basis.

So that is possible to get financial statements with quarterly
information??!!!

Re reporting quarters in the report writer

Enter 3 in the number of periods for each column

In the first column enter 9 as the period offset - this will then print
the total of periods 1 thru 3

In the 2nd column enter offset of 6

3rd enter 3

4th enter 0

Then run the report as at period 12 of the year - the 0 in the last
column will mean print period 12 and the #3 periods will print periods
12,11 and 10.

Hi,

I have only used Vantage 6.1 but in reference to the product groups
you should be able to do this if all of the accounts are created in
the product group maintenance. However, this assumes that your
controller would want to do this. There is the sales gross margin
report which may get some of the information.

I am not 100% sure on the above as I have never done it.
