On Friday, it’s EpiUsers Frideas Day! Have you been to the Epicor Ideas Portal recently? If so, are there some ideas you want to encourage other users to vote for? Maybe want to add comments to an existing idea?
I’ll just throw some advice out there - NEVER put an Idea in the ICE Tools section.
I do the Excel+Data, that creates a custom report that you can design and can put a table in. I don’t think they’d develop something new when we have the ability already.
You all ever get tired of doing Epicor’s work for them, though?
Also, then you have to sustain/maintain your RDL to incorporate whatever new data they add to the RDD - data that you didn’t know or care about because you’ve never even heard of deferred revenue on service contracts, but one day someone will ask why it’s not on your version of the report, etc.
Just saying, usable reports out of the box would be nice.
The problem here though is that I don’t see this as an Epicor issue, this is how SSRS outputs to excel/word/etc, it keeps all the formatting, etc, that is why a dedicated SSRS report that only has tables and things like that without fancy formatting, headers, logos, etc works so much better.
It would be nice if they developed dedicated excel only versions of certain reports, particularly in the GL reports area (I don’t see much value in a Sales Order in Excel personally) but I also know they have the Financial Report Designer or similarly named thing so that is likely their defence on that front.
Well, yes, agreed, that would be fine, too. Because…
Like you say, it’s kind of just a handful of reports. It’s the ones you just can’t do with a BAQ (or there’s no good sense in reinventing it yourself) - like the ones that require use of the Posting Engine.
Or the ABC code algorithm. (For the sake of argument, that is. In reality, that algorithm is opaque and not all that necessary in and of itself - you can make a perfectly serviceable BAQ of usage yoursefl, and upload your own ABC codes. Runs a lot faster, too.)
What do you mean by this? Are you saying you want to run for the part on a job? are you trying to run for a material? You have not provided enough info for me to tell you how.
Hate to say it, but that behavior is fully documented. If you don’t want that to happen, don’t set up your parts as non quantity bearing. Doing that tells the system you think the part is an expense and should be tracked that way.
Right I could go on about that but that’s not the point.
You’ve never needed to research the financials of a single part number? Or a pack slip? Or any other info in the IWR that is not the job number, tran type, date, or account number?
While I cannot yet release the information here yet, I can safely say that one of the features of the new reporting tool that we are examining to replace SSRS/Crystal does have some built in Excel export functionality that may be stronger than what is embedded in SSRS. Since we dont have it to play with, i can only go by the documentation.
Note that it also seems to have the native ability to print barcodes and QR Codes. It also is supposed to be easier to use as a label printer, so it might replace the need for using BarTender.
HOPEFULLY we will be able to make an announcement soon on this new tool! we will NOT be waiting until Insights… we will announce as soon as we possibly can. You all will be second to hear (after I hear)
