Global Alert Email Error Log

Brad -

I just finished working out issues I had with Global Alerts and Shop
Warnings in v6.1, and came up with the theory I'll describe below. I
haven't looked at this in v8.anything yet, as we haven't yet done a
test-migration from v6 to v6 since I learned this, but my guess is that
the rules should be similar; you might just have to ensure the
supervisor's "Employee" record email-address is populated.

Good luck - please let me know what happens, as it may help validate my
thinking...

SETUP:
== Added new "Person" record (in Job Management Master) with email
address of intended recipient
== Added Alert Groups as needed
== Enabled Global Alerts and Shop Warnings as needed

PROBLEM:
== Error messages as a result of blank-email addresses when sending Shop
Warnings (Global Alerts appeared to function properly)

SOLUTION:

== "Email Address" field in "Employee" record (of the triggering-user's
supervisor) *must* contain a valid email-address
== "Name" field in "Person Record" *must* be identical to the "Name"
field of the person's "Employee" record (though this is still under
investigation as noted below)

REASON:
== When a user triggers a "Shop Warning," the alert is automatically
sent to the user's "Supervisor" as defined in the user's "Employee"
record; if the Supervisor's email-address is blank, the automatic-email
will be sent to a blank address. To equate the "Person" record to an
"Employee," the "Name" fields must exactly match.

AS YET TO VERIFY:
== Does a "Person" record even *need* to exist for a Supervisor? (I
actually don't think it does)
== Does the "Person" record need to have an email-address specified at
all if it's going to be equated to an "Employee" record anyway? (Again,
probably not, since the Supervisor will get it based on being a
Supervisor, not a new "Person", and the need for this "Person" record is
already in question)
== Can a "Person" record be created for a recipient external to the
company so that, for example, a customer could be automatically
notified? (This "Person" would need to be added as a "Person" related
to the Job.)

Subject: [Vantage] Global Alert Email Error Log

We are currently running version 8.0 and are looking to implement some
global alerts. We are running a problem where the error log is showing
an email trying to be sent to ;;. Obviously this email is going to fail
because this is not a valid address. However, it does send the email to
the right addresses. Does anyone know why there would be an extra email
of ;;?

The code we are using is this:

assign email-to = "dave@... <mailto:dave%40vantage.com> ".

Thanks,
Brad
