Gary & Britt,
In Outlook 2000, you can set up rules to run a program. I send an email with a specific subject, and the message rule activates a batch file that initiates the process. The trick on the IP side is that you need the IP address to initiate the connect. Either you need a static IP address, or you can do as I do and get a free hostname for your dynamic IP address. When I connect to the internet at home, I launch WINIP, and it maps my dynamic IP address (assigned by the ISP) and logs me in to their server under my "myaddress.ip.com" IP address. Thus, my batch file at work simply calls out my WINIP hostname. (see http://www.algenta.com/software/winip/) A lot of people use the WINIP hostname so people with chat software can find each other easier.

Troy,
That's a nice trick. What's in the email that does that?

I've had good success with VNC, which is free from either www.tridiavnc.com
or http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/index.html. It works both inside your
company (for working remotely on other workstations or your server) or
through a direct dial up or through the Internet. I use it from home (or
anywhere there is internet access) to connect to my Workstation at work. I
can reboot my workstation if needed and then log back in when it's up and
running again. I chose not to open a port on our firewall for security
reasons, but instead send an email to my workstation, which initiates the
connection from inside out. It has saved me several trips 40 minute
commutes to the office at late hours to get Vantage back up and running.

Jerry:
No I last used PC Anywhere a couple years ago and was very unimpressed. I
did not compare to ver 10.
I was remarking that the program seems very decent for a remote PC
package. It should suit my needs of work-at-home or on-the-road dial up
work.
