HELP - Upgrading 5.2 to 6.0 - Getting Errors on DB Conversion

Todd,

Even if you report errors in the upgrade instructions, epicor does not track
revision levels of the installation instructions. All you can do is download
the latest copy before installing.

I would be very interested in all your details from going from 5.2 to 6.0, I
will be doing the same in the near future.

Thanks. In the mean time here I've broken down and checked the Support
ePortal Answerbook and there was a pretty clear reference to this exact
issue in the conversion. Contrary to the upgrade instructions the Progress
services have to be shutdown to do the conversion. The instructions in
Appendix C state;
"Stop all 5.2 and 6.0 databases using the Progress Explorer Tool for 9.1D"
but they do not mention anything at all about stopping the services
(AdminService and ProService). This time I got a lot further but ran into a
bunch of "font not found" errors and something about being run with no
integrity (-i). But these seem to be warnings only and it is now ready fort
he schema change.

This really irks me because I've noticed many inconsistancies and outright
errors in the upgrade instructions which have caused me a LOT of wasted
time. With support not working today (an otherwise perfect week day for
upgrading if your company is shut down) it becomes a crap shoot to try to
upgrade following the instructions. I even called Support on Wednesday to
discuss the upgrade process and see if there were any "gotchas" to be aware
of and no mention was made of this one.

If I successfully make it to 6.10 today (or tomorrow or Sunday) I will be
posting all the notes I am making about things that could be more clear in
the instructions ( as well as sending them to Support) so that others might
not "step in it" too.

Haven't done this upgrade yet (still at 5.1) but I think I may have run into
this on an old conversion once.

Try manually setting the DLC path. Go to a command prompt and then "Set
path..." to whatever location is correct for this particular conversion.
Not sure if it will work for you but might be worth a shot.

Good Luck!

I am trying to run the DB conversion from the 6.0 CD and it gets part way
and then dies with the message;

"The DLC Environment variable must contain a valid path"

Huh? This is Epicor's canned conversion...does everyone get this message?
Any ideas what it means or what I can do to get around it? Support is not
working today so I have nobody to call for help (as usual except on support
weekends).

Also, in the conversion where you specify the location for the database to
be put the instructions are unclear and say epicor\mfgsys60 but should this
really be epicor\mfgsys60\db for the DB folder? Could this be the source
of the problem?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions (from any of you happening to be
working Friday the 2nd).
