My company is in the process of implementing Epicor Kinetic this March and I need some guidance on how others have track project costing. We thought maybe we can add a 4th segment, however, I am running into the issue that I have to manually add the 4th segment requirement to the natural account and proper cost center. For example, we have natural account 7767, which is Trade Shows. Normally, the GL account would be 7767-10-5800 (5800 for marketing), however, now I want it to be 7767-10-5800-001 (001 for FabTech). Is there a way to make the 4th segment a requirement for a specific natural account like 7767? And make it dynamic, so that we can recreate it on the fly… Thank you.
Epicor has a module for Project Management where you enter the project on Jobs and Orders to combine costs for reporting and tracking that is pretty good. You should be able to tie a GL Control to Projects as well, but I don’t recall.
If just for Sales Orders, you could possibly use Sales Categories or if you have CRM module you might try a Marketing Campaign which can track things.
We have Sales Orders with a UD Code drop-down for Order Types and then can report and consolidate costs etc. using that as a Key in BAQ’s etc.
As far as Finance Segments, that may be something else and better left to Finance experts which I am not, lol
Just a couple of thoughts.

We use Marketing Campaign Event Codes to track which orders resulted from which trade shows. Not sure how you’d join that up in the GL, however. The project management (and project billing?) modules would give you more power with rolling up costs, if you plan to use it.
