How do I close a cancelled SO?

Sounds like you already have some of the line releases pending shipment (entered in Pack IDs). If so, you have to back those out and then you should be able to void (or close) the order.

I am trying to close a canceled sales order, but I keep getting the
message that there are shipments pending for this order and it cannot
be closed. How can I eliminate these "pending shipments" so that I
can close the order?

Pending shipments are packslips that have not been invoiced. You would
have to delete the packslips first then go to the Sales order, close the
releases on the lines. This will close the lines automatically, then
automatically close the Sales Order itself. After you are done the
Sales Order lines will say "voided".

Of course I would find out why there are pending shipments against it
first!
