Import/Export of Data Definitions

I pulled the "Report Data Definition Export / Import" off this user
group and have been using it for v8.03 - it has been a life saver! It's
under Reports - Report Export Utility in the files section of this
group. We exported all of our data definitions and put them into source
safe. I also export/import definitions from pilot to live with it.
We're going to be installing 9 here shortly and I'm hoping it will work
for 9 as well since we have quite a few of them.

Hi,

We have been creating Data Definitions in our Pilot database as we prepare for going live. Now that those are mostly complete and have been tested, we need to get them moved to our production database before we go live. However, I have not been able to find a way of exporting and importing them. Has anyone had experience doing this and can you give me some pointers? I know it is possible to copy parts of the data definition from list views, but that is still a very time consuming process.

Thanks!
Adele
This isn't available until 9.
Once you get to 9 there is a new menu item for the solution manager that allows you to import/export a lot of these items that could not previously.
If you are on 9, though, please do a run-through of this as there are known SCR's for this functionality.

Adele,

I was just recently working with a client who upgraded from 8.03 to Epicor
9.04. Data Definitions was one of the biggest issues we had. I talked with
Tech Support who told me about Solution Manager, but in their opinion it
wasn't (my words here) "ready for prime time". I believe a number of bugs
were related to adding tables. In the end, I ended up testing and
recreating the data definitions that caused issues, since most of our
modified data definitions had added tables anyway.

Thanks for the responses. We are using 9.04.506C and I was able to find the Solution manager. I was able to create the .cab file with my data definitions however I haven't gotten around to testing the import yet. Do you know what bugs have been reported with this? Is this something I should import into a test database first and carefully test them before importing into Live or is there minimal risk?

Thanks again!
Adele
