When we did our first "real" inventory in Vantage, we had the same
situation...and decided to make tags for everything, use the inventory
system to zero them out and be done with it. Then, when you print the
discrepant report, you'll have a list of what you zeroed out. If you use
the auto select when you create your inventory group and tags, it will
select everything anyhow. Then you have a control list and can make
informed decisions about what to move to obsolete, what to make inactive and
so on. If you want this to be a clean fresh start, make it that way.

Do you have costs in your part master? Accounting will want to be able to
reconcile the differences in the value of inventory once you get your real
numbers in there.

The problem is there will be no tag for these items because we are
only tagging items that are physically on-hand. We are not creating
count sheets based on Vantage data. We are only counting what is
out in the shop and warehouse.

I guess in a perfect world this wouldn't even be an issue, but we
haven't had a really good physical inventory in the past and we know
we are going to have some bad numbers. This is really going to be
like a base year and fresh start for us.

After our groups are entered and posted, what is the easiest way to
zero out any items in Vantage showing a positive or negative on-hand
quantity that have not been counted. In other words, the items
exist only in Vantage; we do not have the parts on hand.

Since I estimate this will be about 200-500 items I would really
like to avoid creating a report and manually adjusting the
quantities.

When you create an Inventory Group in Vantage it will automatically include
all items with on hand quantity in Vantage. You will have to enter a qty
for anything you show in inventory.

We group by warehouse. Thus, everything we have in that wherehouse is to be
counted. When you are done entering all the tickets you do have, you will
have a list of Part number you dont have tickets for. You will put a qty of
0 in and mark the ticket as returned. Vantage will make the adjustment.
