Kinetic MES Barcode Entry

We are running Kinetic 2024.2 MES in the browser on Surface Pro tablets. We are using Symbol LS2208 barcode scanners programmed to read the data and add a Tab at the end of the scan. We further programmed the barcode scanner to accept a single character barcode (not a native function for this scanner). We are using generic MES logins. Employees are using their key fob (cross referenced their employee number) to log in. The RFID key fob reader is programmed to add a tab after scanning, which completes the login process. All is well to this point.

The problem comes when we use the barcoded fields in the Start Production flyout screen. The Start Production flyout screen’s default cursor position is the Job Number (as it should be). Scan the barcode for the job number, it’s entered and tabs to the Assembly Sequence field and that’s where it all falls apart. When tabbing into the Assembly Sequence field, the cursor captures (highlights) the default value in the dropdown list of zero (0). When I scan the Assembly Sequence barcode, instead of accepting the value scanned, it opens the dropdown list. The selection must be made with the mouse. Press the Tab key on the keyboard to the Operation field (also a dropdown) scan the Operation barcode and that field sometimes accepts the scanned value and tabs out, and most times opens the dropdown list.

At this point, the only thing we can use the barcode for is the job number. Ideally, I would like to scan (job number), scan (assembly sequence),scan (operation sequence), click OK, and that’s it. If not for the behavior of the drop down fields, we’d be there. Does anyone out there have a solution for scanning a value into a dropdown field?

I had this same problem and solved it by adding a new Assembly field as a “number” field (not a dropdown) and a new Operation field also as a “number” field (not a dropdown), and moving them so they’re next in sequence for the barcode wand.
