Make a single job for multiple parts

Erwin,

I would recommend you don't let the system backflush multi part jobs. Its logic to figure out what to backflush doesn't hold up when you book in amounts to stock that would otherwise not consist of 1 "Cycle" on the machine, even then its a bit flaky. Furthermore, if you auto receive into inventory and then amend the labour record qty for some reason the system just books into stock the new finished amount and doesn't "Undo" the previous amount(Still happens in E9).

With all of the above faulty logic in the mod this will cause issues with Cost of Sales and your balance sheet. The work around ATM is to do everything manually.

Test this very well!

We are on Vantage 8.3.408b.

If you have any questions feel free to shoot me an email.

We want to create a monthly job with 16 different parts in it, like a batch job. We also don't have APS... We don't want to have to create a seperate job for each part.

And where do you want these 16 parts to go? Stock? A shipment? Another Job?

Mark W.
They would go to stock. I have a final assy that is serialized and we currently have a flat BOM and are trying to make it indented with sub
assys. Some of them I want to make a job for the subassy and put it into the final assy and others will be jobs to stock. we don't do to order jobs. Would like to make 1 job a month for parts to stock instead of 16.. Hope this helps clarify the issue.

Yesterday I got the license codes for my Vantage 8 (looking to go to 9 later this year), it lists the advanced production module. would this help me do this multiple parts on one job easier?

Multiple part numbers produced from one job?
I have seen the question before, but never a solution.

Since the part number is key to the job entry screen...
There is always one job for each part number (as far as I know).

If you do find a way to accomplish multiple part numbers from one job, please share it here.

Thanks

Erwin,

I am new to vantage and probably need more explaination of what you are doing. We started with a flat BOM and are now trying to make it indented and match our process. We have a subassy that we build in batches of 20 from 16 different parts and would like one job for this, this all done by one operator. We have tried kanban reciept but then the costing is a mess.. I assume you are saying to create a BOM for this subassy with all of the parts under one operation then create one job for the subassy?

Cheers,

James

I am a bit confused, are you wanting to manage one job but book out 16 part from it? e.g. the parts are using the similar parts to produce variants, i.e. pen with blue lid, pen with red lid etc and the material costs were the same, so costing would be correct. Then you could use Job Parts.

Or do you have a top level part that consumes 16 separate component parts, you make the 16 parts, but would like a single job to generate the material list for the 16 parts? If so you could set up the 16 parts and non-stocked and mrp would generate "job-to-job" jobs where the end product is booked to the parent job, or,

you could try setting the 16 parts up as "pull as assembly" and you would get a large composite job, but you would not be able to book away the [16] parts individually into stock.

It all depends if you want to book the 16 parts into\out off stock.

I was just lurking on this thread and thought I'd throw an "out of the box" idea for making multiple parts from one job.

Isn't there a method that allows you to salvage scrap to another part number? Could a 2 level BOM do this with the top level being the phantom part that is made up of the 16 other manufactured parts. The 2nd level would be the components that make up the 16 mfg'd parts. Setup the BOM to salvage the scrap from the first level to the associated mfg P/N. Have a zero yeild, and all your components end up as "scrap" in the desired P/N.

Just a thought (which I'm sure needs a lot more refiining).

Erwin,

We build a subassy that contains 16 different parts assembled together into a total batch of 20 subassy's. The se are built and  reported against by 1 operator so I would
like to give him 1 job number to build this batch of 20 subassy each day. If I create a subassy part number, then add all of the 16 materials at operation 10 and create a job for the subassy and give it a qty of 20, what I would like to see is the cost of each part rolled up into the subassy and the labor attached to the job. T hen transfer the subassy to stock to be used in a higher level assy later on.

Cheers,

James

Earwin,

Which version of Vantage are you running? We use the Advanced Production Module to create concurrent multi part jobs but we have hit loads of bugs with the back flushing of materials.

Do you have and issue booking in multi-part jobs scrap qty? In our version of Vantage you CANNOT just book scrap parts from jobs. Ive also noticed it booking in the same item multiple times if using auto receive...

Hi

We do not use backflushing, yet, it is something we are about to investigate, as we are moving to pre-configured orders coming off the web, we would create the sales order, raise the job and auto-close it, backflushing as we go. At the moment it is a manual process.

Now I am confused.

It looks simple, you create a part for the subassembly, you create an op 10, add the 16 components parts, each with a qty per of 1.
You raise the job for the part for a qty of 20.
The costing workbench will calculate the cost to make 1 (using the stated components and labour required through the op.
The job will calculate the cost to make 20 sub-assemblies consuming the 16*20 components.

isn't that it?

If I create a subassy part number, then add all of the 16 materials at operation 10 and create a job for the subassy and give it a qty of 20, what I would like to see is the cost of each part rolled up into the subassy and the labor attached to the job. T hen transfer the subassy to stock to be used in a higher level assy later on.

We have a subassy that we build in batches of 20 from 16 different parts and would like one job for this, this all done by one operator. We have tried kanban reciept but then the costing is a mess.. I assume you are saying to create a BOM for this subassy with all of the parts under one operation then create one job for the subassy?

I will check tomorrow and try this in the test database to see what happens
