Material Cost/Labor Cost Absent

Actually I said that we had labor rates set in the resource groups.
It looks as if our problem is just not entering labor rates in the
employee file.

Thank you.

Vista 8.03.305 - When reviewing jobs in Job Tracker or Project the
Actual Labor Cost and Actual Material Cost show as zero. The jobs are
marked as closed. All material has been issued to the jobs. Has anyone
else encountered this? Maybe we are missing a step in the process? We
had the understanding that as transactions were made against a job
that the cost would update. Is this wrong?
Just a thought... Could it be a permissions issue? In security under
job tracker there is separate security for "Job Cost Information". If
you do not have permissions for that you will not see costs.

Check the part transactions for the items that were issued to the job.
Did they have costs on the transactions?

No costs show in the material transactions.

I also checked permissions for "Job Cost Information" and I have
permission to view that.

You said your labor costs also show as $0? Do you have the correct
labor rates set-up in the employee master file and/or on the resource
groups and are hours being applied to jobs correctly?

We have labor rates set in the resource groups and it looks like
hours are being applied correctly. We are using data collection
through MES and I check daily to see that hours are being applied to
each operation. I'll go back and verify that everything is set
correctly in the resource groups.

I did solve the material cost issue. We weren't utilizing the
receipt entry properly. Once I corrected that all material cost show
the way that they should.

Thanks for all the help up to this point.

Do the part costs for the parts issued to jobs show in part tracker, and do
they match the cost method? i.e. if you use Average cost method the cost
will come from the Average cost field when issued to jobs. That field
cannot be at 0. Likewise for Last and Standard Cost methods.

We have the part cost issue resolved. That is working great now. It
appears the labor cost issue is due to not entering labor rates for
the employees. I'll work on that tomorrow and see if that solves our
problem.

Again, thank you to everyone that has helped.

We are very new to Vista and appreciate all the help we can get.

If you have rates in your resource groups, you should still see costs
hitting the jobs though.

We have 2 sets of rates, a labor rate in the employee file and a burden
rate in the resource group. When an employee logs off a job, the total
labor hours * labor rate get applied as do the total burden hours *
burden rate. Are burden hours hitting your jobs correctly?

Are you saying the actual labor costs come from the rate in the
employee file and the actual burden costs come form the rate in the
resource group? Burden hours are hitting correctly but the boss
chose not to enter burden rates because he says he isn't tracking
burden, just labor. Our burden hours equal labor hours.

You can set it up however you want, depending on your business. For us,
we often have 1 person running multiple machines, or machines running
unattended, so we need to track burden rates & hours separately from
labor rates & hours. If you do not do that, the system does not require
it and yo can have just a labor rate (in employee master file) * labor
hours hitting the job.

My point was, if you have a burden costing rate in the resource group
(which I thought you said previously that you did) and your jobs get
burden hours applied, you should be seeing those costs hit your jobs if
time is being applied properly.

If you have rates in your resource groups and rates in the employee
profiles, which takes precedence? Our 6.1 set up uses an average labor rate
which is only varies from what was the work centers in 6.1 - now resource
groups. So I think it would make sense to put the rates in the resource
group rather than the employee record. Has anyone had any experiences with
that method?
