Anyone really good with MRP out there that might be able to help us understand why we are getting jobs we do not expect. The scenario is we have part ABC. It is a non-stock item with no mins or maxs. We do not want to hold stock of it. A job we do not expect to see on the schedule for a qty of 40 is showing up. There are two orders in for the part both at a qty of 40 and two firmed jobs both for a qty of 40 as we do expect. Why is the system generating this 3rd MRP job for 40 when there is no demand. Only one of the firmed jobs is complete, the other is release. MRP should see this though and know that the demand is spoken for correct? I hope some of that made sense. Please poke at me for more detail or specific details if needed.
Since the part is non-stock, a sales order release for this part will default to "Make Direct". Unless the created firmed jobs are linked to that release MRP will plan a new one linked to the Sales Order Release. I would check there first.

We still need MRP to pick these parts up when there is demand, we're just
not seeing where the demand is or why it's making extra of a non-stock item
with no min or max make direct.

I agree with tchristie1..... what does your TimePhase tell you for each of those instances (of 40)?

Might be daft but does the part have a negative on-hand qty?

No there are two orders each for 40 that I see in the time phase, then two
firm jobs each for 40 putting it at 0, then a make to stock MRP job for 40
that puts it at +40. Again no mins, maxs, or saftys on the part.

Do you have the forecast module? Did something get stuck in there? Forecast always results in make to stock from an MRP run regardless of if the part is stock/non stock...just a long shot..

Where is the demand for the MRP job going? To one of the sales orders or to inventory? Are both of the current jobs pointing at one of the orders? Are your jobs due before the sales orders? Does your Planning Workbench show a recommendation to cancel either of the existing jobs?

Do you have your schedule locked at a past due date? If so, MRP will ignore the lock and create new jobs on the correct due date.

Do you have your schedule locked at a past due date? If so, MRP will ignore
the lock and create new jobs on the correct due date.

Are your jobs due before the sales orders? Does your Planning Workbench show
a recommendation to cancel either of the existing jobs?

Apparently they have stopped locking jobs and are now engineering jobs to
have only one resource instead of a group so they stay in place. So job
locking would not be the issue.

Have you picked advanced logging when you run MRP?
The log files will be dumped in the users report directory.
I have solved some good MRP mysteries this way.

Good Day Joshua:

Send them to the Epicor helpline. But would help assure a response
if you copy\pasted just the lines for that part#.

Also send a screen shot of how MRP is run.

I do have the logging set to full for a while since we are just going
live.
Would it help anyone for me to post them online? I don't know how to
read
what the issue is. Who in our facility would be most qualified to read
them
and know whats going on?

One of the patterned issues we have noticed is, it appears for every firm job MRP is creating a duplicate of that job, same qty with what appears to be no demand, and the due date that the duplicate MRP job has is the extent of the cutoff date. We are doing first of month + 4 months right now as our cutoff and all of our duplicate MRP jobs for every firm job are for 5/1/2012. Anyone ever experienced this before?
