New MRP bug

I agree with Joe - you always need to have visibility of jobs requests.
Maybe the fix could be along the lines of when you go to make the job "firm"
a flag will be generated to warn you that an unapproved revision is used in
the BOM, do you want to use it?

You may not want to build it right now. But as it stands if sales
puts in an order you'll never know you're missing it until the
customer calls wanting their order. The system should give you
a suggestion then you can deal with it as you see fit.

this issue.

Joe,

This issue has been written up with an SCR (software change request)
which
will require a schema change. See explanation below:

PROBLEM:
A sales order is created for a part that has a BOM, min and max
quantities,
but is a stock part with zero on hand and an unapproved revision. MRP
does
not create a job because the revision is unapproved. Mfg Suggestion is
not
created because it is a stock part, so how can Production be flagged
that a
job is needed? The system doesn't flag you in any way if a job cannot
be
set up through MRP.

STEPS TO DUPLICATE:
1. Create a manufactured, stock part in the part master with a minimum
on
hand quantity and a minumum lot size. Add a BOM, but leave the revision
unapproved.
2. Create a sales order for this part. As designed, the Make flag is
set to
No.
3. Run MRP. No job is created (because the rev is unapproved).
4. Look at Mfg Suggestion. No job is suggested.
5. Change the Sales Order to Make. A manufacturing suggestion now
appears.
6. Approve the Rev, change the due date on the sales order, and run MRP
Net
Change.
7. MRP will now create a job.

The point is, until you do steps 5 and/or 6, there is no visibility that
a
job should be created, other than looking at Time Phase.

QUESTION:
Should the MAKE flag on the sales order be the control of whether or not
Mfg
Suggestions are created? If the on-hand quantity is zero and a sales
order
is in place, shouldn't a suggestion appear to create a job? If the
revision
is approved, MRP will create a job, but if the revision is unapproved
there
is no job and no suggestion, so therefore Production has no warning that
A)
a job was not created because the revision was unapproved, or B) a
suggestion to make a job does not appear. Time Phase does show up as
going
below zero.

RESPONSE FROM DEVELOPMENT:

SCR 883

Prior to Morocco, the part-suggestion table's index did not include the
part
number. This was OK because Vantage did not generate manufacturing
suggestions for stock at the time. With the Morocco MRP project (AXL
13581,
now SCR 178), MRP Processing does try to create manufacturing
suggestions to
stock, but because of the index, only one suggestion for stock is
allowed
for each company-plant-warehouse combination. As a result, MRP
Processing
(mr/mrpexp.w) creates only the last stock suggestion for each warehouse.
Also, when a job link to stock is created (any way), the lone PartSug
record
for the warehouse gets removed by the JobProd "write" trigger
(db/trg/JobProd/write.p). It is therefore highly unlikely that a
manufacturing suggestion to stock will remain.

Fixing this will require a schema change to add the part number to the
unique index. After that, all programs that use the PartSug table need
to
be checked to see if the part number should be included when finding
records.

Sounds like a feature if your buying an item, stocking it and selling it.
Setup the min & max qtys so time phase exception picks it up.
