Need to create "Ghost Demand" on parts that will trigger MRP

,

One of our plants is going to go into a non-production mode for a short while (a week or two) and we would like to be able to build up a stockpile of Finished Goods to hold us over during that time.

What would be the optimal way to go about this so that everything flows through the Epicor process smoothly? The big concern is ensuring that this ‘Ghose Demand’ triggers MRP and creates jobs for those parts.

Would our best best simply be to bypass MRP and manually create jobs for all of the parts? Or (and this is outside of the box thinking) should we create a fake Customer and Sales Order, then simply add the Parts and Demand to that SO? (Which should trigger MRP as well)

I am not looking for a definitive “this is how it must be done” (unless there actually is a way that it should be done), but looking for more of a discussion to toss ideas around to see how others may have tackled similar situations in the past.

Put a minimum on hand for each part?

I agree with @hackaphreaka , a temporary adjustment to the inventory stock/safety values seems like a sensible approach

I believe this is what MPS entry is for. As the scheduler, you’re telling Epicor/Kinetic that you know what you’re doing and to make parts. It creates a demand for that part, quantity, and date for a site. It’s pretty much designed to do what you want.

@Mark_Wonsil is spot on. Master Production Schedule is a perfect tool for this. Its just a production forecast.

I probably shouldn’t answer questions for modules I don’t even have

Sure that works if you want to do it the perfect way.

Well damn! That appears to do exactly what I need!

I threw a demand of 150,000 of a part into MPS for the end of May, ran MRP, and the demand shows in Time Phase, along with the corresponding jobs to meet that demand.

Thanks all!
