Subject: [Vantage] [OT] Accepting Credit Cards

We are considering accepting credit card payments for a small subsidiary
business we have. After contacting our bank we seem to have two options;
1. A specialized terminal conected to the processing center via analog phone
line
2. A windows based program connected via Internet

The terminal is a lower cost per month (on lease) but would require a new
phone line.
The PC option has a pretty high upfront costs but low monthly and no phone
cost - it also allows use by multipl "merchants" in case our main business
wants to take cards (possible option for credit hold customers).

Is anyone else accepting payments via credit cards and have a preference for
method? Does such processing integrate well with Vantage?

Thanks,
Todd Caughey

Todd,

My wife has a retail store and I have been down this road. We use a program
called PC Charge which integrates with her POS system. The software was
fairly cheap and can run stand alone on any PC. Depending on your type of
merchant account it will support either an analog dial up or an internet
(virtual server) connection. We use a virtual server connection at the store
and it is instantaneous. As I said it can be loaded on anyone's machine.

If your volume is low and the value is high you can get an account which
uses voice authorization. The per authorization fee is steep ( a couple
bucks) and the percentage is higher but if it is not a big portion of your
business who cares, build it in the price. Be aggressive with your provider,
this is a highly competitive business so get an account with no monthly
minimum, no-setup or cancellation fees. For a non-swiped transaction (card
is not present) you should be paying 2.2% max with a $ 0.20 - 0.22
transaction fee. DO NOT LEASE ANYTHING ..... you are locked into them for
the term.

Email me offline if you need more info or have questions. We do not use CC's
at our shop so I have not looked at how Vantage deals with it, sorry. I can
also give you a name of the company we use, they are very competitive and
are not out to take advantage of unsuspecting clients.

Keith
