OT: choking email

Great ideas (as usual). Thanks a lot. Will let you know what seems to work
best.

Sometimes I still like to see whats getting bounced.

Are you using Exchange 5.5?
I've added some TurfTable entries & that helps a little with known spammers.
I think 2000 can hook up directly to spamhaus.

Outlook client?
I just have a rule that dumps undeliverable messages into a folder.
Occasionally I get a call from somebody wanting to know why their email
didn't arrive.
These messages have come in handy, (rarely).

Thanks, everybody, again.

Now for my REAL question of the day:

Three employees left the company in the last six weeks. They all
had email
accounts. One guy was receiving over 150 "spam" emails per
day...here's the
problem:

If I delete their accounts, the Administrator mailbox will fill up
with
"INCOMING EMAIL UNDELIVERABLE" notices, unsubscribing doesn't work.
I went
in and marked their accounts (in Good ole Exchange 5.5 whatever the
latest
hot patch is) to refuse anything over 1kb in size, now the admin
account
gets messages of "OUTBOUND FAILURE" trying to send to these spammers
who are
relaying their stuff through three accounts. Other than
automatically
e-mailing this stuff to their homes (which occurred to me, but I
don't have
e-mails for all of them)is there anything else I could try?

I need to receive those Incoming undeliverable messages, sometimes
people
legitimately spell someone's name wrong and then I can forward it on
to
them.

YIKES!

I would just stop them from going to the admin account. If someone sends
e-mail to a non-existant mailbox on my mail server they get a bounce back.
"unknown account". If someone mispells a name it will bounce back and they
will figure it out or call in.

Lydia,

I set up a "Dead Letter" mailbox ...

Then added all ex-employees as additional email addresses ...

Then added the "Dead Letter" mailbox to my desktop outlook as an additional
mailbox.

Then tagged the "Dead Letter" mailbox as "Hidden" from the global address
book.

I'm also using spambayes against my personal mailbox AND the Dead-Letter
mailbox. That way what is in the Dead-Letter mailbox is usually valid
emails that someone should deal with.

Now, once a week or so I scan the mailbox for any valid incoming emails to
ex-employees ( like customers who haven't changed their contacts to one of
our few remaining employees ).
