OT-ERP comparison-new corporate company may demand chg

I know its frustrating, but believe me the alternative
is far worse.

I worked with another large ERP solution for seven
years and they would send out even beta versions to
anybody who wanted it.

I can site plenty of examples where users upgraded
databases accidentally without backups, ran beta
scripts against databases that were still live etc.
and both with catastrophic results.

I have tried to get Epicor to send me the 8.0 CD so I
can load it on
a notebook for training purposes, which would give me
some great
leverage right now, but they won't send it out because
we have not
gone through their implemenation steps. I have no
intention of
upgrading to it at this time.

Our company along with 2 sister companies have recently been
purchased by a larger corporation. Our company uses Vantage
(currently on 5.00.329), the 2 sister companies are on 2 different
ERP packages (Mapex(sp)and something else. The new mother
corporation (who has 8-9 plants of their own in various states) is
using TCM (Time Critical Mfg)by EMS, also known as Workwise TCM.
They are currently on an older version, no gui (5.3?), with lots and
lots of custom programming - so much that they are concerned that an
upgrade could be a nightmare if possible at all. TCM has a new
version 8.0 that is windows based and looks similiar to Vantage's
menu. I do not know what this software has to offer, but I do not
believe it will come close the Vantage 8.0. Our company is a job
shop, we have been on Vantage for 10 years. All the other companies
are more of an assembly type mfg. Our company feels it will loose
features and efficiency if we have to change from Vantage, we have
worked very hard to get to the point that we are at. The goal will
be for all companies to end up on the same ERP sys for accounting,
IT admin, maintenance and costs.

Due to the fact that all companies will require an upgrade of some
sort, my belief is to research to find the best ERP package and have
all companies change to it. My goal is to make sure they not only
understand what Vantage 8.0 has to offer, but also how much
customization can be done without changing the code, the reporting
capabilities, the support from Epicor and especially the support
from users such as this egroups and the user group meetings. All
companies are going to have sacrifices to make, but consideration
should be made on what package will benefit all companies. They had
seriously considered Vantage years ago, but went with the other due
to discounted pricing.

I would think that each company could implement to the chosen ERP
system connecting via a WAN to corporate office where all new db's
would be located and maintained. If it is decided not to attempt a
data conversion for each company (which would probably be the bulk
of the problems and cost?), then each company would run parrellel
systems from a chosen beginning date until a chosen cut off date
(possibly Jan 1, 2006), then cut over to chosen ERP system. Each
company could retain their current servers and current db locally to
access their own history only.

I have tried to get Epicor to send me the 8.0 CD so I can load it on
a notebook for training purposes, which would give me some great
leverage right now, but they won't send it out because we have not
gone through their implemenation steps. I have no intention of

If any of you have any words of wisdom to express on Vantage vs.
Workwise TCM or suggestions on implementation, views on Vantage's
customabilities and reporting tools, or any knowledge or insight
that you wish you had access to in the beginning or made you choose
Vantage over another ERP, PLEASE respond or email me off list.

All replies will mean a great deal, and I Thank You Very Much!

I wish you luck in your pursuit of Vantage 8.0

If you have an up to date license, and your check was good, you should
be able to get V8.
I understand they have their reasons, but their reasons don't trump that
$12,000 dollar yearly fee.

If this was going on in the "every body uses it" software community they
would be getting pages and pages of bad press.

Yes we have new software
Yes it is available
Yes we know you paid for it
No you can't have it until we want you to have it
