I am out of ideas here. I was wondering if any of you could help me.

I had someone mess up their "file folder" associations in Windows XP.
Now when ever they double click any file folder in explorer it tries to
do a search on that folder instead of opening that folder. I have tried
to change back the default to be OPEN to no avail. I logged on as
administrator to the PC and I can't even delete and recreate the
association. Also messed up is the folder setting where you choose to
browse in the same window or open another window. No matter what option
you choose it always opens a new window.

I have been on Microsoft's website and have had no luck. Does anyone
out there know how to restore their file associations to their default?

Okay, well I didn't realize that the user group doesn't allow attachments. I
feel kinda stupid now.

Juliet, I sent you the file directly to your email address. Try that.

Its a registry fix, Reg file; double-clicking it will restore the
appropriate values in the registry in order to fix the problem without doing
an XP recovery.

That SHOULD work.

Arrggh! I did some poking around and managed to break mine to do the same
thing!

Try going into RegEdit and under: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell

look for the value (Default) -- it probably has "find" in it. Edit it and
set it blank.

The go into Folder Options -> General and click "restore defaults", apply,
then reset your preferences. That fixed mine, bit it's W2k.
