OT-VirusScan Software

I dont have that info handy but if you use CDW they have a CA rep on staff. You can ask for a conference call between you, your CDW rep and the rep from CA. You will find it very handy. If your intersted in Message Labs then you can contact them directly since it is more of a service then a product. http://www.messagelabs.com/home/default.asp
Thanks

I know this has been discussed in the past, but I wondered what
virus scan software is preferred by other Vantage users. I
currently have McAfee for the client/server (have had it for years
since the beginning in 1995). We use Trendmicro for the mail server
(Linux). It is time to renew, the prices are very close. Currently
we have 35 W98 & XP-pro clients and the server is NT4. We plan to
replace the NT4 with a new Win 2003 server in the next few months.

I appreciate any input you may have! Thanks!

I have been very pleased with Computer Assoc products. The nice thing about CA is that you don't have to pay a subscription charge. Once you purchase the product you get free virus updates as long as you have the product. The only thing you have to pay for is upgrading to a newer version of the product. The other nice thing about the product is that you get two antivirus engines instead of one. This doubles your chances of killing the latest virus.

Ann,

I just started testing and using NOD32.
So far, I can't say enough good about this software.
It uses so much less computer resources to get the job done, it makes
Norton and McAfee look like they run in slow motion.
It can update its virus tables HOURLY.
And then it only downloads new definitions not an entirely new file.
Most downloads are less than 30K.
Microsoft uses NOD32 to protect their critical systems (for the past 4
years)
They have won 28 straight 100% Virus Bulletin Awards (The only company
to have done so)

See these reviews.

I should also mention that for email we went to Message Labs. Its an outside scanning service that has become the leader in prescreened email. Prices range from $2.40 to $3.00 a month per account. You have to purchase in lots of 25. It scans every email 5 times. It scans the email with CA, MacAfee and Symantec for viruses. Then it sends it through an anti-porn filter. Then it sends it through an anti-spam filter. Its worth it weight in gold as far as I am concerned. We filter out hundreds of viruses and thousands of spam messages every week. You can also set it up so that it scans all outgoing mail. This in itself was worth the cost. Nothing worse then getting a message from a customer that we have sent them a virus. Another nice feature is that if you have both incoming and outgoing mail set to message labs then you can tell your firewall to ignore all other SMTP traffic. This keeps a machine on your network from being hijacked and acting as a spam/virus email point. It also caches your mail on their server for 7 days in the event that your email server is down. If you are going to be down longer, call them and they will cache all email until further notice. Great people to work with.
I sleep better at night with this service.
Jeremy

CA (Computer Associates) is eTrust (I highly recommend for servers and
desktops)
eTrust - small footprint - very little performance hit. Can set a
distribution server so only one download is needed through the internet.
All the other workstations look to the distribution server for their
updates. The admin tool lets you create polices and profiles if needed.
You can force updates, force scans, and also schedule updates & scans from
the admin tool.

McAfee is Network Associates ( I like their Webshield SMTP mail scanner,
but that's about it)

My 0010 bits
