OT - Virus software

The version of InoculateIT does not run on Citrix, because I am using drive
letters of M: & N: as my drives on the Citrix box.

Sorry about the Off Topic, but I just can't find information that gives me a
warm fuzzy feeling.

I will be moving to a Windows 2003 network in the next year. We currently
are using Antigen and it's spam manager for email scanning. I am happy with
this product and hadn't planned to replace it.
We are using Computer Associates InoculateIT or ETrust Antivirus on the
PC's. I would like to find a replacement software for the PC's only, but so
many of the software companies roll email, and desktop virus protection into
one "suite". All I need is to protect the servers and desktops. Does anyone
have any suggestions for a virus software?

Thanks for the help.

Panda makes a nice standalone that automatically updates virus signatures,
Trend (Pccillin) is also very good.

Trend Micro's Office Scan
It just works
I have mine look for pdates every hour and push out new updates when
they come in automatically
Then I scan the whole building every night at 3am
When it finds something it takes care of it and send me a email
It works and works VERY Well

When I started here we had Norton
When I installed Trend Micro, Vantage ran faster

Alot of the new Firewall devices (Like Sonic wall and others) have
built in anti virus and anti spam solutions you can get as add ons

Thats my 2 cents worth
Hello Nancy,

I run E-trust. I looked at this recently http://www.nod32.com/home/home.htm
<http://www.nod32.com/home/home.htm> . It is supposedly what Mr. Gate's
company uses. IIRC they didn't have 24 hour support, so I decided to stay
with Inoculate.

Good Luck,

The newer version of ETrust Antivirus only has settings for Scan Outgoing
files or Scan Outgoing & Incoming files. I don't want to scan outgoing
files and scanning files both ways slows Vantage. I can speed it up a
little by telling it to ignore some of the Vantage files, but it's not as
fast as with the old InoculateIT Scan Incoming Only option.

We are big fans of NOD32.
We run it on 38 machines and 3 servers (including our Vantage server).
Very fast and small memory foot print.
We love it.
PC Mag says its complicated. They are right, if you got your first
computer, ever, last Monday.
Oh and its inexpensive too!

Nancy,

With eTrust just set a rule not to scan anything on your Vantage share drive
V:\ for example and also tell it not to scan the C:\Epicor folder. eTrust
hardly affects the performance of the computer. Leave it set for
inbound/outbound. This inbound/outbound is not email in this case. It is
simply which way the file is moving relative to your computer - copying a
file to your server, or downloading a file to your local drive. eTrust has
very simple licensing - a node is a node : server, pc, pda, phone, Windows,
Mac, Linux - it's a node. And you pay just once - no annual blackmail to
keep the virus updates coming - like Symantec & Mcafee.

Any pc can be a replication server - so you only have to download updates
once and distribute them to your remaining systems. Sure keeps the inet
traffic down.

I only wish it did a better job on spyware & adware.

My 0010 bits,

Charles
