Good day to Everyone, Can someone on this user form please assist me with creating a part on the fly or a one time use part number?? Or if someone could direct me to the location of a training video or pdf which i could read or watch???
It’s what it sounds like - there is no setup or prep.
If you are making a sales order, just type it by hand in the field for part number. Ditto for a PO.
haha… it is kinda funny… but “Part on the fly” is something we talk about quite a bit, but there is no specific documentaiton on what it is or how it works.
Part On The Fly (POTF) is more of a concept than anything else.
- POTF is a feature that allows you to simply use a part that is not previosly setup anywhere in the system.
- THEREFORE, you do NOT create it anywhere… except where you plan on using it.
- there are a few “Rules” for POTF usage:
Rules:
- POTF can only be used in Quotes, Orders, Jobs, Purchase Orders
- a POTF part may NOT be put into a standard BOM in the engineering workbench. Before any part can be engineered there, it MUST be a Part that is defined in the part table.
- POTF CAN be used as both a parent part or a material in a QUOTE and in a JOB.
- POTF CAN be used in a sales order to purchase something that is not in the part table.
- POTF cannot have a price list (customer or supplier) or a standard cost.
- POTF cannot be stocked… if you make a POTF in a job, it must ship from the job. (same with POs).
EXAMPLES:
- In Sales Order Entry, you can type in a POTF into the part field… when you do, the description will not automatically populate (because it is not defined yet). You will be required to enter the description, price, etc
- In a Job, you can add a material that is not in the part master… it will require you to either MAKE or PURCHASE direct the item since it cannot be stocked.
HISTORY:
- the system DOES create a history of the POTF… this is not lost. you can see all receipts and shipments.
OTHER TRICKS:
- Later… once a POTF is used, you can decide to make it into a “real” part number… to do this, you simply create the part in the Part table. Now it is no longer a POTF.
