Patch update with custom MES Menu ID

Anyone using a custom MES menu ID? Do you have a process in place to how you keep your sysconfig file in sync when applying a new patch? We went from 10.1.600.3 to 10.1.600.4 yesterday evening and of our sysconfig files were updated thus not keeping the entry for custom MES menu ID.

Thank you,

Set your Custom MES menu at the config file in the server side then it should download correctly with updates.

Will the server sysconfig not update when a new patch is applied?

Good question. I’m curious about this too.

They only add a line at the bottom with the new client update zip, it shouldn’t change your Custom Menu’s (in my experience)

So when you update, it only changes the version values on this line?:

Right in the client sysconfig on the server it should only append to that line with a new version number and change the version number. I’ve not seen it over-write the entire thing (though I may be wrong)

Interesting… Thanks Jose

Has anyone found a work around for this while on the Cloud? We don’t have access to the server side of things so during a major upgrade like 2021.1.1 to 2021.2.1 the client\Config\xxx.sysconfig file gets overwritten entirely. I have been asking Epicor if they could add this to our server side file for us at Epicor but not expecting them to say yes. Really need our Custom MES menu setting to stay put. Very frustrating.

Let me know if anyone has a different solution.

Thanks,

If you ask them to add this to their (your) sysconfig in the server it should… no?

I have a request into the Cloud Ops team at Epicor. I will let you know what they tell me. Sure hope this is an option.

Hey Jill!

This thread is similar.

Force SysConfig refresh? - ERP 10 - Epicor User Help Forum (epiusers.help)

Some solutions in there were to push sysconfig files through GPO or write a PowerShell script that is run after upgrades. Also, sysconfig files will disappear when you go browser-based so it’s a relatively short-term problem.

Thank you Mark!
I have a request into the Cloud Ops team to try to have our one setting added to our server side sysconfig file. Not sure how far we will get.
If they tell me no, then I will look into the other options you mentioned.

EpicorSaas has it’s good points and it’s bad points. We have made it through most of the bad ones:>)
We are still trying to go LIVE on December 13th this year. Just got our one big bug in our Sales Kit Configurators hopefully fixed. Just would really like to be live finally on the cloud and moving on to bigger and better things:>)

Thanks again for the info!!

Hi @JillMetalworks , did Epicor end up helping you with this? I’m dealing with the same issue for a customer…

Hi Tom,
Tim Ligas from Epicor’s Cloud Ops’s Team sent me an email and asked me to send him a copy of our sysconfig file. That way during the downloads of the upgrades the sysconfig file will comes down with the customization in place. Our Pilot database was recently upgraded with the major upgrade that will be happening on May 14th. Our customized Sysconfig file did not lose our customized entry. We did have to move the “MESCustomMenuID value” to the UserSettings section of the file on all of our computers that need to access MES.
Hope this helps!

Good luck!
