Process Server

We initially had trouble with the Process Server shutting down until we
realized the anti virus software by blocking it's port. We added the Proces
Server .exe to the antivirus exclusions and all is ok.

Does anyone know what TCP/IP port that the process server works on? I
am having a problem with the process server shutting down and need to
monitor it.

Thanks,

I think I remember someone once saying that they were able to run the
process server as a service.

Am I correct? If so, can someone give me details on how to do it.

We would like to run the process server on the Vantage Server, yet not
leave the vantage server logged in all the time.

Any other thoughts would be appreciated also.

I recently upgraded to version 6.0 and am attempting to setup global
alerts, which have obviously changed from version 5.1. I believe I
have setup the email configuration bit up correctly within company
maintenance, but am not exactly sure how to setup the 'process
server'. Essentially, I need assistance setting up the 'process
server' and ensure that I am setting up global alerts correctly. Any
and all help is appreciated.

Mark,
Copy the Process server .mfg file and then set the StartGlobalAlerts=no
to yes.
You can test the process server from any computer, but I prefer to run
it from the server so it does not get shut down.
Without the Start...set to yes, you have to go to processes and
GlobalAlerts and start it there.
It should just keep "waiting" until it send an email.

I understand that version6.1 has the functionality to add another
server in a remote location that will sync with main server. Has any
one implemented this? If so any hing I need to know before I
implement it?
Thanks.

I have noticed that in 6.10 the "Process Server" must be run to use Global
Alerts, etc. It seems to me that this should be a service run off the
server and not run off a user workstation.

If you ask me, the Process Server in general stinks. I liked the old
way that they did the alerting much better. The Process server craps
out on me every so often, and I have to restart the application. I
usually don't find out about it until the users tell me they are no
longer receiving email alerts. It has been doing this in Vantage 6.0
& 6.1. The Process Server would be much better if it were run as a
service. That way, at least I wouldn't have to leave an ID logged in
to my server to keep the Process Server running!

Hello,

We are running it from my sysadmin's XP workstation, starting and
ending it with either the default task scheduler or Hot Keyboard. It
did take us a full re-install since we couln't get it to run like
that -it wouldn't run automatically.

We don't want too much *junk* on our server. I'm still amazed they
couln't have integrated into the server install or something like
that.

Is there a way to make the process server start when vantage starts? Is there a way to make it a service so I don't have to be logged in to keep it running?

Also, what about the differerent processes, can I automatically have global alerts start.

Thanks,

Jasper

editing the "Start....." items in the mfg file just auto starts them when you launch the mfg file (so you don't have to manually start each item you want after starting the process server.

you'll still have to start the process server itself. you could use some sort of scheduling application start and stop it as needed.

When I boot Process Server I start the BAQ and the Global Alerts.

It then says that they are starting up, and then freezes at "Email -
Sending Email" and I've waited hours...

Has anyone had this problem?

Ben,
I have seen this before. Usually restarting the process server gets it
though. If not, you will need to clear your alert queue. I think Epicor
has a utility for this, but I have done it from ODBC before also.
Good luck,

Subject: [Vantage] Process Server

When I boot Process Server I start the BAQ and the Global Alerts.

It then says that they are starting up, and then freezes at "Email -
Sending Email" and I've waited hours...

Has anyone had this problem?
