When I upgraded from 5.1 to 5.2 I had alot of help from Vantage support,
because I just started working with this company in August and never did a
upgrade with this software before. They had suggested to install all
software in regards to Vantage on the server. I installed the upgrade of
Vantage 5.2, Progress 9.1D, Service Pack 7, and the Vantage Client that the
users use all on my server. Now mind you I never use the Client software on
the server they just told me to do it. What I am saying is that I am able
to run everything from the server without putting it onto another system,
including the Progress Explorer Tool.

When you wrote "Client software", I assume you were referring to the Vantage
client. If so, then that is one difference between our setups; I do not
have the Vantage client installed on our Vantage server. If that makes a
difference regarding the functionality of the PET, I certainly don't know
why.

Mel,
I installed Progress 9.1D Service Pack 7 on our Vantage server running
Windows NT Server 4.0. I then experienced the same problem you're seeing.
As far as I know, you will not be able to run the Progress Explorer Tool
locally on that server. The workaround for me was to run PET on my W2K Pro
client PC and manage my database connections from there.

Scott

not, what SP is currently installed?

Subject: [Vantage] progress explorer tool
Hello group
I have a question about progress explorer tool. When I open PET I get an
error stating "Unable to connect to Admin Server. Insure that Admin Server
is running (8336)". I have check the progress web site and tried a few of
the things that I found there but to no avail. Vantage 5.1 is running fine
and windows NT says that Admin Server is running as a service. I opened a
DOS prompt, went into the progress\bin folder and ran proadsv -query and it
says that Admin Server is not running. Proadsv -start will start the
service and I can then connect in PET but as soon as I close the DOS prompt
window I get the error "Lost connection to Admin Server (9172).
Can anyone give me any suggestions?
Thank you for your great help
