I did the 3.0 to 5.1 conversion last week, and we went live this
morning. No show stoppers, but my Progress Explorer Tool won't work.
I get an error message suggesting it isn't a Microsoft Management
Console Document. 5.1 Admin Service is started. Is this a quick fix
or should I call support?

Les,

I had a similar situation when I converted us to 5.0. Our vantage server is W2K and apparently the Explorer tool can have a slight glitch when installing it to a W2K server. I received a "snap-in" error when I tried to implement the tool. But, just like you, my Admin service started anyway and I didn't have any problems otherwise.

I did end up calling tech support about 4 months later to fix the error. I ended up reinstalling just Progress.

Thanks Wendy. I'm still on NT. I'm also getting "The server or the system
has no more Resources. Try a larger -n (748) Do you know if this can be done
in 5.1 without going through the Explorer tool? Seems like everything is
done through it.

Thanks - Les

Les,
If you have the Progress Adminservice for 9.1A installed, then Progress Adminservice for 9.1C won't work. Go in to your services on the NT server and "disable" the 9.1A (even if it is already stopped, you need to disable it). Then reboot the server. 9.1A and 9.1C don't like being installed on the same machine.

There is a know issue. Something to do with Win2K and WinNT having different
version of the MMC. The fix is documented in Epicor support document 1708MPS
from Epicor.
