Has anyone tried to Promote a Kinetic Personalization to Customization via the instructions provided in the Epicor Online Help? I tried this and am not getting data in the list described in steps #6 below. Wondering if this is maybe not available until 2021.2 as we are still in 2021.1.11 or if it doesn’t work correctly?
Promoting Personalization to Customization
Article last updated: August 09, 2021 16:09
Personalization can be really helpful when you want to make simple changes to the application’s UI. And some personalizations can end up being so successful and convenient, that you might want to make them available not only for the users that created them, but for the entire company. To do that, you can promote those personalizations to customizations in the Application Studio.
Go to the application that has the personalization you want to promote. You don’t need to be the one who created the personalization. You will have access to all user personalizations for this application within your company.
Launch Application Studio.
Select .The Layer Selection panel opens.
Select Change Layer > Merge Layers.
Select the Load from Personalization check box.
From the list, select the ID of the user whose personalization you want to promote and select Promote. Now, if you go to the layout designer, you will see the page’s layout the way it was personalized by that user. To preview the changes, select . If the Application Studio hints you to create a layer, enter its Layer Name and Description and select Save Layer.
Hi Debbie! I was just trying this today and haven’t gotten the personalization to stick yet. I followed the steps in that article and then added the customization to the menu in Menu Maintenance.
Hi Jacquelyn - I found out from Epicor Support that you cannot Promote a Kinetic card Grid Personalization to a Kinetic Customization, as “Load from Personalization” only applies from a Layout personalization. I was successful with promoting a personalization that was on a layout however the majority of our personalizations in Classic are to Grids.
I am not sure if you use Epicor Ideas but there is an idea that was submitted to allow promotion of Grid Personalization - the more votes the better chance we have of getting it moved to a “Future Consideration” https://epicor-manufacturing.ideas.aha.io/ideas/KNTC-I-2327
Wow! Support got a two for one. I just did the very same thing, and put in a ticket for it yesterday too.
I’m also getting the (it seems like) auto-reply from the support agents that X ‘feature’ from the Classic UI is not available in Kinetic, and to enter yet another Ideas topic. Latest one is that the Kinetic Job Status Maintenance only allows us to firm 50 jobs at a time, while Classic can bring in all jobs.
Currently this is a limitation but I have included document on Epicor Ideas where we get you to request Enhancements to software to get it where you want it.
I’ve asked for a list of Kinetic limitations, but Epicor claims not to have one. Do we start our own here?
It’s embarrassing when we roll out something that’s supposed to be ready, but the users immediately ask how to do something they’ve been doing in Classic UI for years. I’m having to create that list as we discover these missing capabilities ourselves, and identify which modules aren’t 100% feature parity vs Classic.
Andris - I agree that it is embarrassing and also frustrating…we have been encouraging our people to use Kinetic which is not an easy task as the love Classic. A list of Kinetic limitations would be very helpful. I started a Kinetic Tips for our users to cover differences e.g. exporting to excel, copying & pasting, searching.
I would love to see Epicor’s test plan for Kinetic as it seems weekly we find issues and open cases with Epicor Support. I search this User Group, EpicCare Problem Repository, Epicor Ideas before opening a case as often support has you go through all kinds of gyrations before they find that the issue is already being worked by development or agree that it is an issue and open a problem.
