Purcashing Suggestions - New and Changed

They are displayed via 2 different apps (that can be launched from Buyers WB - giving it at least the pseudo appearance of being an integrated processes - at the cost of one more window open) because:

1. the data comes from two distinct tables,

2. the actions required to act (& app support do so so) upon the messages are somewhat different

a. New PO Suggestions generates a new PO header & line/rel from a new suggestion and then leads you to edit it in PO Entry,
b. Change suggestions typical lead to right click from p/n into Time Phase to analyze wisdom & urgency of suggestions & then perhaps a jump into either the PO (to make changes) or into Part Entry (to reset planning parameters that may have led to a less than appropriate message).

3. there are different urgencies to different messages (1st: place new, 2nd: expedite versus 3rd: de-expedite/cancel - all further prioritized by how far out in time the message entails: sooner being more urgent than later)

4. they involve different time scales to accomplish (place new may require a multi-supplier RFQ cycle & approval cycle - that can take days - while change messages can be acted upon rapidly)

You certainly CAN create a BAQ to inner join the 2 tables thru some common table (like company), preseting your multi-column sorts as you see fit. This can be dumped into a dashboard set up with some user input criteria entry filtering fields (buyer, date range, supplier, part range, etc.,) and that could be published as an advanced search (usable from what ever other single app you'd rather use as a hub... Perhaps Time Phase part number context linked to Part Entry - from which you can then right click into PO entry to do whatever you want to do).

You can pretty much do all that though right out of New & Change PO suggestions. (Reviewing News 1st, expedited 2nd & pushouts/cancels last).

Some companies actually break up the work: senior buyers handle New PO suggestions, expeditors handle expedites & mid level buyers round up the de-expedites/cancels (as suppliers may need to be coddled when asked to push out receipts for material they may already have financially committed to).

...All depends upon you're human resource strengths/weaknesses in purchasing (and company policies regarding buyer limitations of making future A/P $ commitments).

You can also write (safe, efficient, read-only) SQL queries (even on progress db) and do odbc queries from excel or access to pull in each days suggestions and make them appear like a single seamless group of suggestions.

You have to decide what fits your skill sets and process best.

Subject: [Vantage] Purcashing Suggestions - New and Changed

Has anyone found a way to view both New PO Suggestions and Changed PO
Suggestions in one consolidated screen/dashboard/ report? If not, how
does your organization deal with it, as our Purchasing department finds
it tedious to look at the two different sessions? Any advice would be
appreciated. Thanks.
