Remote office

We are using Citrix and Windows Terminal Server (you choose win2k or win nt
4.0 term. Serv.) We use the Citrix thin client to connect the remote client
to the local Citrix Terminal Server. We have a full T1 connection and it
takes about 65sec. Just to log on. By using Citrix ICA Client we cut log on
times down to about 22 sec. We have another remote office, which has a 256
link to us. The clients there take about 33 seconds to bring up the log on
screen. I haven't tested the connect rate w/o citrix across the 256k link,
but I'm sure it would be extremely slow. I'm pleased w/ the Citrix /
Terminal Server solution. (On a side note, you can use your Citrix/Terminal
server for more than just Vantage. i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, IE, Custom
Apps, etc.

I would like a little advice please. We are building a new office in
Mexico. We would like for them to attach to our network in Ohio and use
Vantage and Outlook from there. We don't want to duplicate a Vantage and
Exchange server for them. Any suggestions.
We have and Exchange server, Proxy Server, and a firewall with a 256k line
that can explode to T1.
Thanks for all the help

Nancy,

I've provisioned a Frame Relay circuit from Michigan to Mexico... Your best
bet is to go through a carrier that provides end to end service on the
circuit (say no thankyou to anyone that tries to sell you on 1/2 a domestic
PVC and 1/2 a Int'l PVC... if there's a problem they'll just point fingers
at the other 1/2 of the circuit). Anyway AT&T and Sprint provide End to End
circuits and eliminate your need to get involved with TelMex. Also consider
Voice over IP on the same circuit depending on your needs. I've spec'd a
256K Frame Relay circuit with 3 8K voice channels the rest is divided up
between Citrix Metaframe/Vantage and FTP.
Frame is really the only option! ISDN is laughable and DS1 circuits start
around $11,000 per month with an average installation flat fee of $15,000
(US dollars).
If the monthly charges are still to painful then consider running circuits
from each point to a border town such as Laredo and setup your own wireless
to connect the PVC's i.e Cisco Aironet (25km range).

Good Luck!
Lee
