Reporting scrap

We have the same situation. Right now we have our employees clock on and
off the job for each different type of scrap. The first time they put in the
quantity accepted with the 1st scrap category, then clock back on and enter
0 acceptable and the 2nd scrap category, and so on. It seems tedious but
the employees get use to it after a while. It sure would be nice be able
record multiple scrap categories at one time.

We are upgrading our ISO-9002 system to include certification to the
QS-9000 standards, and we are required to quantify and analyze all
nonconforming product (scrap). Other than collecting this information
manually, as in the past, we want to use our Vantage 4.0 to handle this
task in more than two categories. How have any of you been able to collect
this information for analysis in more than two categories? I.e. the
problem is by the time person goes to log out of the job he may have a few
different kinds of scrap, how can we keep track of that using Vantage.

Oleg,

You can separate the job scrap into multiple scrap reason codes during the
DMR processing.

Do you have the quality modual? We are heading in the same direction as you
and have developed an MS Access system to handle the things that the Vantage
QA madual does not. These include: disposition tags/labels, rework, WIP
labor quantity adjustments, just to name a few. I just implemented this a
few weeks ago and it seems to be working out ok. We also had a manual
system to capture all this information inthe past and until now have never
exploited the benefits having it.

Note that when a shop floor employee reports scrap he can only choose one
reason code. That is unless he clock back in/out for each scrap reason.
