We have the Quote Module also, but don't use it. We use a combination of "Parts and Vendors" (3rd party software) and a customized Access database.

We use the RFQ module but only on a very limited basis. You are absolutely
correct is is very anemic. Our estimating department found it to be to much
of a hassle to use. They did not want to have a new vendor entered in the
master file every time we wanted to get something quoted by someone
different and as purchasing I found it to be double work the way you can
not select individual items for quoting from a job without bringing
everything over to the quote and then deleting item by item. Then the fact
that you could not even generate a purchase order from the quote made it
even more work than value added. I had put some recommendations for
enhancement on the 5.0 survey before it was released but they did not make
the cut. Hopefully in the future it will get some attention. Sorry that I
couldn't offer help, but I did want you to know someone out here has tried
to use it, but very little in the 4 years we have had the module and we
have no intent on re-implementing or using it more until something is done
with it.

Is anyone out there using the Purchasing RFQ module?

We have this module, but we just recently decided that it was time to start
using it. For us, it seems to be completely un-useable. We need the ability
to generate an RFQ from a job. However, our jobs have 100's of materials
and subcontract lines, with only 1% of them requiring RFQ'a. However, when
you generate and RFQ from a job, the system automatically pulls EVERY
material and subcontract line in! The purchaser then has to delete the
100's that he does not need quotes for. I would have thought you could pull
in only the lines you want, but there doesn't seem to be a way to handle
this.

Is anybody in a similar situation and have you found a way to effectively
use this module?

I agree completely with you it is almost completely unusable as it is. I do
a manual entry every time I need to get a RFQ on materials because it is
faster than deleting all the unnecessary items. I put this out as a
requested enhancement on the Cyprus Survey so we need to vote on this. If
anyone has a work around to make this a usable module, it would be great to
hear about it.!

I'll be sure to vote for it on the survey!

BTW, we also found the reporting very poor here. Almost all of the part we
are quoting are not in part master, they will only be used on this job and
then never again, hence the need for the quote. However, in the reports,
there is no way to select just that part if it is not in the part master.
So, when you look at the std Vantage reports, it gives you EVERY part price
ever, from purchasing and from RFQ's! This really does not work for us. We
want this information to be easy to find by job, by part so that any
concerned individual (ex. manufacturing manager, owner, purchaser, engineer)
can look up the quoted prices by job, part, even if it's not in the part
master. I wrote a report builder report that the user can change the filter
and view by job# and see all the quoted parts by quantity and see what we
got back for responses.
