Sales Territory: what's the effect of removing reps

We assign salesmen their own territory as well. But we also have House, New and Unassigned territories. Typically, other salesmen would take over the clients. But in this case, we would put them on Unassigned. Another thing we do is assign all "real" salesmen to every territory so they can see everything.

What is the best practice treatment of their record in Sales Territory if a decision has not been made yet to re-assign their customers? Do nothing? Delete? What is the effect of each course of action?

We have reps assigned to a Sales Territory. If they depart, we mark the Workforce record as Inactive. What is the best practice treatment of their record in Sales Territory if a decision has not been made yet to re-assign their customers? Do nothing? Delete? What is the effect of each course of action?
